Just witnessed an interesting incident.

Driving on a single carriageway road, 50mph speed limit, moderate traffic.

In front, a van doing about 40/45mph. Behind a BMW 5 series, and behind him a marked police car.

There was a gap in the opposite direction traffic and the BM overtook both myself and the van, followed by the police car. Now, there was room for the BM to get past, there wasn't room for the cops to pass, and the traffic in both directions is now braking hard to avoid them.

I assumed that the cops were chasing the BM, as he must have been speeding when he overtook me, otherwise why pull such a stupid stunt, but no. At the next set of lights the BM and the cops are sitting there, one behind the other, waiting for the green as if nothing has happened?? W***ers!!

Probably was, but why drive in such a stupid manner, endangering other road users.

They obviously weren't in any sort of emergency situation.

Sounds like someone on Police class one instruction or class one test to me, how many in the BMW?

Definitly sounds like a training scenario, I have been in the position of being the oncoming driver (in a 44T artic!!!) when one of these traing runs came towards me and he left it very late to get back on to the correct side of the road. I had lights full on and was "gesturing " as you do! to the silly driver when I realized that there were four coppers in the car with presumably the instructor in the passenger seat. Spent the next few hours of my journey constantly checking the mirror for an unmarked Mondeo following me!!

Unfortunately there's a lot of un-earned confidence and arrogance that goes with police driving. I just assume that they are idiots and anticipate accordingly.

Just abusing their position,situation normal.

I read in our local paper a couple of weeks ago that someone made an official complaint to West Mercia Police about a police van speeding on the A5.
I wonder how that investigation will go

No further action due to lack of evidence.........I guess.

You're probably right, although the they did say they would investigate as the van was estimated to be doing 80mph+.
Also mentioned was the lack of a black box style recorder on board to monitor none emergency activity and it was something they may look at in the future.
