Polished windows - interfering with wiper sensors

First post, be kind please :)

I've just bought my first ever Mercedes - a 2006 280 CLK. The dealer had done a good job cleaning and preparing the car, but as part of that, the windows have been polished with something that appears to be interfering with the automatic windscreen wiper sensors. The wipers turn on, the windows smear slightly, the wipers wipe more frequently, the windows smear, the wipers wipe faster, etc. A classic vicious circle.

Any suggestions on what I can use to clear the screen of whatever has been used? Standard windscreen wash doesn't seem to be cutting through it, and I'm wary of using anything stronger without some recommendations.

Sonus glass polish gets most contaminants off the screen. I use every couple of washes.

Welcome to the forum sixedup. The CLK 280 is a very nice car - enjoy!

Thanks - I'm looking forward to spending some time here. I seem to have just missed out on the chance of meeting up with some of you in person at Brooklands, but hopefully I'll be able to make it to the next one.

As always with second-hand cars, there are a few things that aren't quite the way I'd prefer them, so I'll probably be asking some questions about modifications and upgrades over time. But for now, I'm just enjoying driving her!

With caution a drop of meths or surgical spirit will clean it.

As MJH said, a chemical that removes oil. Just put some on a cloth and wipe away. might need to do it a couple of times.

I had a gentle go with meths, just over the sensors. This improved the situation considerably, though it's still not perfect. I think another treatment should have the wipers working properly again though. Then its a case of just doing the rest of the screen.

Put some meths on a cloth and wipe the blades...they may be contaminated.
