Does anyone know the best method for polishing the lip on my alloy wheels. I have a 1997 SL320 R129. The main part of the wheels are what I would call standard finish, the edges however are polished. These are looking a little tired but not that bad.
Any ideas would be appreciated.

Make sure they don't have clear lacquer on before attacking with Autosol ...

^^ What Bill said there. ^^

I just use a very thin layer of wax on mine after a clean.

when i polished the lips on my 18" amg monoblocks , to keep the shine i used meguires nxt metal polish, its really good and has anti corrosive agents in it to keep the shine longer. it worked for me and the shine was really good.

He said they look tired, not really going to matter if the lacquer is polished off in this case...

ah i guess if they are laquered then you cany use a polish on them and would need to be re laquered maybe, mine were not laquered so it was bare polished metal

Just to be aware that getting all the lacquer off cleanly will be a bigger job than simply polishing.

Yep if you are going that route it's a lot easier to chemical strip the lacquer off first then polish

Yea I did a set of wheels before, took me a full day for each one but they looked perfect!!!

I am having my satin black 19" C63 wheels fully refurbished at the Wheel Specialist - Garforth - Leeds.
Having the wrong glasses on when I bought the car!!, I never realised that the polished lip on the wheels had been painted silver, albeit very, very well.
But this has cost me big time, whereas their full re-furb normally costs around £300, adding the OEM polished lip has raised the price to £600.
Will report back on Monday when I pick her up.

Ouch, should've gone to Specsavers :)

Pop up a picture of the wheels so we can see if there diamond cut or if there polished. This way we'll be able to let you know the best route to go down to restore them:)

Kind Regards
Michael
