After the results last time, I thought try again.........

Im considering replacing the wheels on my 124 coupe for another type of AMG wheel. Id like to either refurb mine to get them 100% or buy a set murraysystems is selling. See below and take a vote..........
If you go for "something else" any suggestions?
cheers

get the ones off Chris....

As MurraySystems is a member here, why not ask him directly instead of buying via eBay? He may give you a better deal.

I was planing to do that, just wanted to make up my mind if those are what I want. Thanks for the advice though.

I would get yours redone - they are v rare and suit the car.

You could possibly paint the centres black on yours to get the same look ??

As for the ones on ebay - they are 8.5 " wide with offset of 30.

These will def stick out of the arch at the front and not look right.

I'm not sure that they would; the offsets are scaled to match the width of the wheel. It would probably not stick out at all - but it might collide with suspension or other components. If a wider wheel of the same type is fitted the face of the wheel is often in exactly the same position but the increased width extends towards the centre of the car.

Right, according to my calculations; the standard rim on these is 7J, so if you fit 8J, the width will increase by 1 inch (25mm). So thats 12.5 mm on each side. I think the standard ET on these are 37, so if you fit 30, it will protrude on the outside by (12.5+7.0) 19.5 mm more than standard, but only (12.5 - 7.0) 5.5 mm on the inside.

Of course this is noly relating to the Rim, not the tyre aswell.

Cheers, Bill.

The wheels on the car are 7.5" with ET 42 offset. I dont think fitting the 8.5's would be a problem as they are a w124 part number.

8.5" et30 is better suited to the 500E front wings. You might get away with them with standard wings but you will probably have to roll them and it won't look right.

The 500 E used an ET17 or ET18 on the 8.5 J rim.

Keep them as is (refurbed) but then I am not a fan of the dark centred wheels (sorry Mr Toad - and I do think your answer may be a bit biased there! ;))

I'm not convinced a refurb would work on those rims, they look a bit "busy" for me, especially on an old W124.

I'd go with something flat-faced with a dish, maybe set of Borbet A's colour coded black centres and flat caps.

Alternatively you could always buy a set of decent splitties but then you're into £1500+

Oh and I think 18" suit the W124 best.

My point was that et30 will give problems on standard wings. 8.5" et30 works fine on the 500E.

The E36 W124 AMG used the 8.5J ET30 on the W124. It may have had rolled arches, but as aka$h's W124 has a factory AMG kit wheels and suspension it should be ok.

Are you sure? I thought the E36 used the 7.5" et42? I could be wrong.

The 8.5J was an option on the E36.

Also the 8.5J Et30 AMG wheel was an option on all W124s, i have a brochure here which shows the W124 with those wheels.

I think AMG used spacers under the standard wings to move them out a bit to stop them rubbing.
