c250 TD auto - sold
I have a c250td '99' auto. I am only getting 22-23mpg. Admittedly my journeys are nearly always 5 miles from cold start. Independant garage says he can hear a missfire at approx 4000rpm but will need to put on computer to diagnose. Car just had a B service with all filters changed. Any ideas before I use all available diesel in NE england!!

Have just taken your advice. Put some Forte injector cleaner into the fuel filter and taken the car out for a good thrashing. I'll have to see what happens now, hopefully that will have given it the clean out it needs.

Cheers

I guess that there was a lot of black smoke ?
If your only doing small runs it might also be prudent to change the oil more often, I find that my 306 hdi runs alot better after an oil change and the mpg gets better also.

Couldn't comment too much on the black smoke to the rear as I too busy looking out for any polis in front!! Usually get all of the cars I have had oil serviced every 5k. Just hope what I have done will help the mpg....if it gets any lower I will have to measure it in lampposts passed not miles..

Hi, I have same car, live in peak district so am constantly up and down hills, I travel 6 miles to work each way and easily achieve 32 - 35 mpg (40 on a run).I do put a good brand fuel system cleaner in at every service (5,000miles) an change air filter at 10,000.Hope this helps.

I am getting it checked out on Monday just hope its nothing serious
