private reg value?

The ones that make me laugh (in a shake-of-the-head kinda way) are the plates specific to a particular car/model that cost more than the machine itself. C63 AMG for £60k anyone? ;p

A member on here owns that plate I think.....

Maybe has it listed speculatively with a reg dealer - is certainly flagged up on a site at the moment. Maybe these guys just list a reg at a stupid price and then approach the owner if they get a bite?

My "OUI" plate seems to make people laugh! Several times I've had people come up to me in car parks and say "Your number plate says yes in French" as if I didn't know! :D

But, it seems the French yes has gone up in value too. I paid £50 for it about 10 years ago and only the other day I got offered £500 to sell it from a guy, you guessed it, in a car park! :D:D:D

Love 'em or hate 'em, there are currently 11,200+ posts on the number plate thread. We used to compete by counting from 1 upwards to see who could get to the highest number. No cheating, you couldn't move on to the next number until you'd found the one you were looking for, and you couldn't count any numbers you had found out of sequence. Number plates can break up a dull journey!

We used to play that one as well :)

i have

E11 DMP on my green estate which is my initials. the E11 is just a tidy start bit. I think it finishes the car off well.

K444AYP is on the silver estate, which is my wife's name (Kay) and start letter of our surname. It would look better illegally spaced with a gap between Y and P but i dont want the hassle. This also finishes the car off well.

I quite like them. However i have opted to keep the original plates on my Rover and the SL, as i think its in-keeping with their classic status to stay on original plates....

were you bored?

That's the usual cause.

I used to do this sort of game as a nipper - except with letters and it was more of a long term game and spread out over numerous journies (spotting the suffix).

Used to do it from the 1963 > 1984 range until it became impossible.

Think I did it once early last decade for nostalgic reasons - but had to do 1984 > 2001.

It's a sign you need to change your car for a more interesting one, as was the case!

I have just got my CLK last week and the number came with it 123BXU that is now going on to my Harley Davidson, and my wifes number on to the CLK DE53 JUE

Many years ago in the late 70,s I used go out with a girl and her dad had a Vauxhall Victor reg JCB 17 and he kept the car going in the hope that JCB plant would buy it off him. When he first contacted them they said at the moment they were only going to 10 but they may be interested in a few years.I met her around 20 years later and she said they bought after about 10 years and it was still on the original car ! She also said he spent nearly as much keeping the car going over the 10 years as he got for the plate.

Their collection now comprises 1-10, 12, 14, 17, 36, 52, 79, 123, 751 and 781. The also have 4 JCB and 8 JCB, plus a few other non-JCB numbers (Sir Anthony has APB 1, for instance).

JCB 17 is now on a white Vauxhall Insignia, by the way. It would be nice to think that they saw this as the spiritual successor to the Victor... :)

The Victor was also white (well white with a lot of brown rust on it !) That is a great bit of information Thankyou...:thumb:

Likewise. I'm always fascinated by interesting stories about how numberplates have changed hands over the years.

Wonder what M4NDS, M AND S. I Have seen S4NDS on a van belonging to a company called S & D

When we were on our summer holiday as kids, my brother and I would play a game of spotting cars with the new registration that had been released...

The game also had a song that centred around the line "New Rega New Rega"
