Before i go any further i admit that this problem is all of my making for not doing enough research. bought some lovely used lorinser deep dish alloys fitted with yokohama tyres for my 107 sl. Replacing 205/65/15 with 205/55/17 so knew were correct size and seller (from ebay but auction ended so purhcased privately) from a guy who had previously had them on a 107. went to fit today and real problemn with offset, it seems the new wheels have an offset of 11, whereas the original 15 hole 15 inch wheels are 25. The new ones catch on the brake caliper when fitted on and will not rotate freely as a result. is it right that spacers can be used to rectify this or am i better off selling the wheels on and cutting my losses?

any advice would be much appreciated

thanks

tim

Hmm...14mm spacer is fairly big. It's your call really, but you will need to buy longer bolts to fit. What width are the rims? The only reason I ask is that although I am not familiar with wheels and tyres for a 107 SL, 205 seems awfully narrow for a 'Deep Dish' aftermarket set of Lorinser wheels?

I suppose it comes down to what you want to do? Are you totally attched to the wheels, and were they very expensive? Funny how the guy had them fitted to a 107 without any problems though. Maybe someone else on here may know why this is?

Good Luck, :)

Maybe he had spacers fitted and found out the insurance company didn't like them so sold them on

ok so they might be stretching the 'deep dish' description and although they are nice wheels, i wouldnt want to have any safety risks with overly long spacers, i think with 10mm spacers the wheels would fit. the guy i bought them from had a pre-1985 280sl and a lot of changes came in in 85 with the release of the 300,420 and 500, mines an 88 300sl. will probably try some spacers and longer bolts, is an 11 mill offset unusual and will i have trouble selling them if it comes to it?

If the wheels are ET11, they will stick out 14mm MORE than a wheel with ET25...

As you know, in 85 they fitted larger callipers and as a result, also went to 15" alloys instead of 14".

The wheels may still have fitted his car because of this.

Check out what markings are on the wheel again...
