Probright TDRLs

So far very pleased, easy to fit and configure. IMHO they look nice.

Yes, I am very pleased with mine as well. I appreciate the 'built-in' appearance, as I had wanted to fit DRLs for some time, but was not keen on the 'add-on' style of fitting them near the foglamps.

I have also noticed that since fitting them, other drivers seem to be more aware of my cars presence than before. I guess that's the design aim met then.

I have a set waiting to be fitted when time permits. I have made a start by making a bracket to carry the control unit and fitted the plastic collar and screws to the light units. I did have to modify the screw heads slightly with my dremel to make them fit properly.

Well I took advantage of todays dry spell and planned the routing for the wiring. Pulled the connector of the back of the headlamp unit but failed to get any joy with my test light when trying to identify which wires feed the indicators and side lights. Googled for a wiring diagram, but couldn't find one and then it bloody rained so will try again tomorrow.

Tricky, the wires in the headlamp connectors on my 2006 CLK are as follows:

E1 Left Headlamp (Nearside):
1 Indicator 0.75mm BK/WH
2 Earth 2.5 mm BN
3 Hi Beam 1.5 mm WH/BK
4 Lo Beam 1.5 mm YE/BK
5 Sidelight 0.75mm GY/BK

Right Headlamp (Offside):
1 Indicator 0.75mm BK/GN
2 Earth 2.5 mm BN
3 Hi Beam 1.0 mm WH
4 Lo Beam 1.0 mm YE
5 Sidelight 0.75mm GY/RD

The 1-5 numbers are embossed on the connector blocks.

Interestingly, the difference in thickness for the Hi and Lo beams - same difference but in reverse for LH drive cars.

If you would like a pdf of the headlamp wiring diagram, just PM me your email address.

(Don't think there is any difference between 2006 and 2009 CLKs, but include your VIN and I can check the diagram for yours specifically.)

Thank you for that, I should be able to get on with it later today if the weather stays fine. Still puzzled as to why I couldn't find a feed with the test lamp, put it down to another quirk of German engineering as is the different thickness of wire for the high and low beam, very odd.

I suspect the front SAM won't supply power to the various bulbs if it detects an open circuit.

Why the different thickness for left and right headlights is puzzling, the only thing I can think of is lower resistance cable for a longer length of wire.

Thread Resurection.
My DRL packed up yesterday. The control box has an internal short and it blew the 15A fuse.

For now I have had to go back to stock bulbs but may just throw some LED in as I like the instant On/Off rather than the warmup/cool down effect you get with filiment bulbs.
