The polishing stage is now done; almost all of the marring was from the body shop.

The next stage is to improve the gloss and perfect the finish.

The bodywork has been completed today.

How I feel

Two coats of Kamikaze ceramic applied (miyabi + zipang) and it now has time to cure.

Ed has spent thirty two hours over four days so far, to get to this point. It's an incredible amount of work.

Next is the interior and to polish the tired, original windscreen.

Car looks fantastic buddy
You must be pleased that is finally done. I Know I was when i had all my bodywork done.. it just seems to be a never ending project.

That must have cost a fortune 😬😂

You know, it would depend on what one classes as a fortune. In relation to the value of the bodywork - no. In relation to the value of the car, most certainly!

Hahha
. Now if your like me you'll hate driving it the bad weather, and now it's all finished your approach to detailing and maintenance washing will most likely change

I'm not, I'm afraid. The reason that this is the icing on the cake is so that I can enjoy a fantastic looking base without having to work too hard to achieve it!

I was surprised that when it was on the ramp, I spotted a huge over-run.

Should I ask Ed to sort it when he next gives the car a maintenance wash/touch up detail... or go back to the bodyshop and ask them to rectify it?

That's disgraceful! I would go back to the bodyshop - it's their bad workmanship. If the overrun is due to the over-application of clearcoat it could possibly be corrected with patience and skill but if it's in the basecoat which has then been covered with clearcoat, then I would think it will have to be stripped back and a new coat of basecoat and clearcoat applied.

So, just under a year later we're back with Ed of Divine Detailing.

The reason is that I've got a couple of events coming, including the MB (official) Club National Concours, which I had wanted to enter after having completed the bodywork last year. It was cancelled due to covid and as this is a daily, wanted to get it up to par before the 2021 event. I'm only submitting for the entry level category that judges the exterior, but since I've put the effort into getting the look right, I'd like to put my best foot forward.

Ed says that after a year, the Kamikaze has done a good job of protecting the lacquer and comes up really well after a polish. This is after two days work.

I've also asked him to polish the windscreen. which was starting to appear a little worn.

He's also said that he's going to have a go at addressing the paint overrun as spotted and noted in my previous post.

Other things asked of him, are an interior fabric detail of the roof and boot carpet, to removed a self-induced mark on the lacquer of my replacement wood/leather steering wheel and re-blackening the plastic in key areas, including a replacement of the air con sticker on the housing (yes, I found the part number and ordered a replacement!).

Yesterday, the polishing was completed and the engine bay was dressed. Importantly for my ongoing titivation, a torn air con sticker was sourced and replaced and the engine bay dressed. I don't normally go for this and I suspect that Ed really wanted to do it as it would've stood out in comparison to the faded black plastic that had been blackened.

Just come across this thread which is very interesting. Could not believe the amount of tape on the imperfections. Probably most people would be seduced by the just painted look & drive away. That's what they rely on. Promise the earth but fail to deliver. At least they accepted it was not good enough. I imagine there were a few home truths after you had gone. Gould to see you stood your ground & had them re-do it. Terrific job with the ceramic coating. All my cars have Gtechnic coating. Car looks better than new. Go & enjoy it.:thumb:

Thanks, I was so patient with them and for so long, that I couldn't believe the condition upon initial presentation. I think that the main thing that caused them to look inwards was my patience and courtesy throughout, in addition to my steadfastness when it came to inspection.

Thankfully, having been around bodywork all my life (my dad is a mechanic), I have an eye trained to spotting imperfections... as I have fingertips trained to recognise fabrics from having worked in menswear retail for many years as a teenager!

They were contrite and returned with a 95% good job, but subsequent discovery of the bumper over-run, rust in bottom corner of osr door and possibly behind rear number plate suggests that they didn't do the groundwork as promised, to the standard they should have done. I wouldn't go back to them, as it was too painful.

Nevertheless, it was a good job for the money and I believe that they were earnest, just struggling to cope with a high quality job with the high volume of work they were getting.

Also, I think that when clean, the car looks mega and really highlights a very nice design (as I think that all E class estates exhibit, to be fair).

He says that he has got rid of the bumper over-run as pictured above and there was another one on the NSF wing mirror which I overlooked too.

Oddly, he left the memory card for his camera in the laptop, so no detailed images from the last three days!
