Pupsi's E500

DO NOT mill the centres. These wheels are prone to cracking as it is, I would not suggest anyone mill them.

The cracking occurs due to over-torquing of the wheel bolts, its not a function of the material at the hub mating face.

Of course, check there are no cracks in the centre pieces before you start milling.

cheers

I actually bought these wheels from aka$h and they were crack free as far as i can see!

Lets hope not ey! Lol :p

How is the handling affected?

I find the total lack of understeer (due to the SLS imo) a big bonus in these cars and going up 20% in rear tyre width would start to erode this no?

As other have said, I like the style, but think it suits the 500E look more than the E500 look.

Dave!

I have the AMG 2-piece by BBS on my car, the widths are identical to the 3-piece wheels, but offsets are 25mm all round, works perfectly on the E....note also on the pics below, my car is also on H&Rs and sitting very low, which helps bring the wheels inwards at the rear.

This is only my opinion, but I don't like that negative camber look. It smacks of 'Barry' lowering and spoils the clean understated look of a 500E.

Well you wouldn't know until you sandblasted them. Once you done that, if you find cracks, Aka$h will surely take my example and refund you the full money. If he argues against it, talk to the two members on this forum who can explain why one should refund in this event. Do that before you end up on the motorway and having to discuss far more than a few quid !

Whoops, now back into the real world....

The negative camber is a function of the original design, it's only exaggerated with aggresive lowering. There are adjustment kits available but i prefer to leave it with the pure mechanicals of MB and H&R working in harmony.

to wear the tyres out in super rapido fashion..

The standard setup would be only just negative, this is at least 2 or three degrees.

I have 2° of negative camber on my rear wheels and have even tyre wear.

Dave!

To be fair, I have No1 Bump pads fitted to my springs and i'm just in the red for tolerance, on the kit we used (Name escapes me) then under 2° is just within limits.

Everything on the car is genuine Merc parts though and fitted to a production car in different markets.

Dave!

And visually how does your car look compared to talbir's. I wouldn't be surprised if talbir has 3+ degrees of camber.

I have no pictures of the car since the suspension work.

It doesn't look any different visually but certainly handled better after the work was done.

Dave!

I think I would go with the steel wheels from a poverty spec W124 India-special and an E250D badge!

Earlier in this thread I said I was going to make a joke about that story and decided against it, I thought it was too early but apparently it isn't! ;)

Errr.... no ! Tyres wear evenly and have not experienced rapid tyre wear, very normal infact...despite covering good miles in my black E. And i have been driving MBs with aggresive suspension set-ups for 10+ years, so hopefully know of any adverse effects :)

Alot of us 500e guys both here and in the States are running with aggresive lowered stance, and without adverse effects.

thanks
