Quaife LSD

I guess this is the reason for my fishtailing whilst nailing it in the dry on a flat road a couple of months back as mine doesn't have an LSD but definitely both wheels were spinning according to the black marks...

I'm not sure if that's the case on the 211 E55 though, as far as I know this was only done on the C55 AMG's.

pretty cheap.

AMG wants 4k Euros fitted, and you have to go to Germany.

I was referring to a replacement diff for a C43 AMG from a MB dealer, they are in the region of £1100-£1200.

Thanks for that, that's a really good price:thumb:

Might give them a call, ideally i'd like PCS to work on the car as they have worked on my car before and I know the quality of their work!

Ask them they maybe able to supply the diff to you, but i think they will require your diff unit as it is modified to LSD, hence why the car is with them for three-four day period.

I guess it must be the same - I had to turn the ESP off in the cabin for it to do it, albeit not in dyno mode, but I cannot see how else it can lock up both wheels and spin them without an LSD?

The Diff it self from Quaife is £1251.92, i'm not sure how they can do that.

Yes, I spoke to Quaife directly and they quoted me the same price as Olly's £1700 supply and fit.

thats £500 to fit an LSD which I think is abit too much, imo.

£125 plus VAT three years ago

Yeah, either that, or you have to chase them to give them the business.

Did someone say the recession was back on?

The labour time to remove the diff is 3.6 hours. Both of the drive shafts are slide in types not bolt in so the left and right suspension has to be dismantled to allow access. It takes 3.6 and sometimes longer. It's bloody fiddly. Then the LSD portion of the diff has to be installed inside the MB diff. This takes specialist tooling and very precise work. The diff pinion pre load has to be perfectly accurate otherwise it will fail.

It's nothing to do with the fact it's an AMG . It would be the same price if it was a C240!!

I know it's a big job Olly.

but you quoted me £247.50 plus fluids and said the whole job takes 4.5 to 5hrs @ £55 per hr and that's what I thought at first & not £500 to fit an lsd.

You must have mis understood me. You asked how much to remove and install the diff. I estimated 4 hours labour. Which it is pretty much. Then the LSD has to be installed into your diff of course. This takes extra time.

I re checked the labour time on ASRA (Mercedes own labour time programme) and it was 3.6 hours when you asked me for a proper quote.

To build the LSD In the diff takes 3.4 hours. Plus fluids, LSD and vat. £1700 ish

lol Terry, very fun at time but can be abit annoying when your trying to go in a straight line and the car starts going side ways and the annoying ESP flashing even when it's turned off...

in the wet an M3 will walk all over a c55 (track and road)

might look into the e92's m3 soon tbh.

Lol, just come to Australia with me...hardly ever rains in Perth so tail happy should not be too much of an issue.

Some say its a bit of a drastic move...more straight forward than fitting an LSD though.
