Question for 2011 C Class owners - Stop Start

Thanks Red, sounds like a good result. I'm guessing I've got one of the duff batch too but so long as it is just transient failure then I'll probably live with it till the A service time.

Great stuff Red :thumb:
I think MB have captured these faults and experiences on their central database as well. They are learning all the time with this new technology. I am sure they are working on correcting the fault on these sensors with a modified design for future applications.

Car in today for it's new bat temp sensor. Which was good as it was starting to get annoying.

The SS system didn't know when it should be on or off and it was getting a nuisance when parking and during low speed manouvres.

Anyhow, new sensor and everything is as it should be. I also think the low speed manouvering settings are different as the ECO light goes Amber with little provocation whilst parking now, which is exactly what you need.

I have a feeling there was a software update along with the new sensor. I didn't ask though as the car was delivered by a non tech driver.

If you have this fault, it is now known and an easy painless repair - get in and get it done and the car drives exactly as it should.

I'll keep an eye on it long term.

No doubt they would have reflashed all the control units and uploaded the latest software to tweak settings based on the experience so far gathered with SS by MB.

Glad it's all working properly.

Yes mine is just the same over the last couple of days.Done 1700 miles in my C350 AMG Sport Plus.Paul

ECO System

The ECO indicator on my 2011 W204 stayed on amber after a long motorway run. The stop start failed to kick in so I took the car back to the mercedes workshop yesterday. The mechanic fitted a new sensor (Battery I presume) and carried out a software update. I think the issue has now been resolved. All is working fine today - fingers crossed.

Eco

A quick update the system has been working fine since my last post. Mercedes must now have the problem solved. Hope this helps.:bannana:

Mercedes C220 Stop / Start Problem

I have a new 62 plate C220 which I am having exactly this same issue. Stop / Start used to work just fine, but the light has been Amber solid for over 3 weeks now.

I have monitored it over various different journeys and it cant be the temperature because it was working just fine even when it was really cold. Driving me nuts now.

Ill call MB in Shrewsbury and see what they have to say!

I've only just come to this thread. My SS system failed in the way described, except that once failed to permanent amber display it stayed that way until I took the car in. MB Stafford took two visits to sort it, one to assess the fault, and one to fit a new sensor but they didn't say which one it was. That was the middle of last year, and the fault hasn't recurred.

Helpful thread - my SS also appears to have died. Will book it in.

My ability to use the brake hold has stopped - related??

I find the ECO mode on my ML350 to be very inconsistant, i hardly ever see the ECO light on the instrument cluster despite the button being green. By comparison i had an A Class on loan that would go into ECO mode as soon as i turned off the drive in the morning.

Most wear and stress to an engine occurs when the engine is started, (1) the crankshaft is resting on the main bearings as there is no oil pressure. (2) the timing chains are taking most stress from stationary to motion, (3) the starter ring and starter motor have more wear, (4) the lifetime of the battery will diminish through the extra start cycles. What do we gain.

Mine works well, although I've got to say I do get concerned about the stresses incurred by the extra work imposed on the electrical and mechanical bits. I usually end up turning the wipers and heater off when ss engages, old fashioned or what?
I also bring to mind what someone else said on this forum about balancing the fuel saved ( pollution generated as well ) against the cost of a new starter motor and potentially shorter life of the battery.

I would like to think the starter motor has been designed for extra wear if necessary. Does it affect battery life as there are no moving parts in a battery? Also don't stop start versions have an additional battery to cope with the extra demand.

Good points Gerald, I'm with you on uprated designs etc, let's hope we're right.

Optomistic maybe, clearly the more starts the more wear on a starter but starter motors rarely fail in my experience and have had some cars for over 100k miles
