Question for any W124 Cab owners

Does the W124 convertible have a similar arrangrement to older Saab convertibles when in comes to improving boot space? In the Saab extra boot space can be obtained when the roof is up by compressing the structured 'recess' that the roof would otherwise fold into in the boot space. The few c124's I've looked at have a similar 'recess' in the upper area of the boot and a webbing strap underneath (again, similar to the Saab) but there is no obvious way in which this can be used to squash the 'recess' and none of the dealers seem to know what the strap is for.

So, can any 'real life' owners throw some light on the situation for me as any improvement in available boot space would asist in convincing a reluctant wife that this should be our next car - why do woman always consider the practicalities :)

Ta muchly!

Are no c124 owners up & about at this time ?:(

The c124 does not have a feature to increase boot space when the roof is up.

The W209 cabriolets have this feature, doubling the luggage capacity when the hood's closed. I'm not sure about the W208.

Thanks Doug - it didn't look likely but I was hoping Mercedes may have come up with a cleverly disguised engineering solution. They must have taken the cue from Saab with the W208.

aka$h - I'll have to keep my wife at the front end then : )

But the size of the boot on the 124 cabriolet is not too bad anyway.

I like your thinking smiley but she's too nice to chop up .........even for a c124. Anyway, she's welsh and they always manage to put up a decent show in a ruck so I'd invariably come off worst !

The volume of the boot space cannot be increased by this method.

The strap is to secure the wind breaker within the boot to stop it from sliding around.

And given that she is Welsh I bet you would still hear the screaming from inside the house even if you did prise her into the boot.

The strap is for the wind deflector as already said.

On a serious note are you looking for a convertible to use every day - if not then the size of the boot is not really the biggest question - I doubt that any convertible will be much bigger than the w124 cab anyway even with the space saver thingy like the Beemer has.
