Thinking of what to get next
Im trying to install freeview in my E, i thought that the connections/sockets would be facing me when i opened the side pocket in the boot but it isnt, any ideas HOW TO REMOVE IT SO I CAN ACESS THE BITS I NEED ???.

Thanks

A sedan, W211, TV tuner? Shouldn't it be under the rear shelf, on the left (at the boot)?

(PS. I know the question was for MR TV but a quick thought while he might be busy with Christmas activites).

Im assuming it was near the nav unit ??.

yes it is for a saloon 211

Oh yes, I was looking at a digital TV tuner retrofit guide. This one talks about a separate digital tv tuner unit at below the rear shelf, but even this one would have the actual TV tuner at the trunk on the left side. But aren't current digital tuners single integrated devices, should then appear at the left of in the trunk. Have to see EPC if it shows this better. Sorry for a quick and misleading reply.

Detali is a bit outdated but the new tuner would be at the same position, part number 270:

Just pop out the side trim its only a few spreading clips and a bolt if you don't have the loading feature, will give you loads of access.

Its stuffed in above the navi processor.

No torque settings to worry about on the mountings so you can just pull out any equipment plates you need to get the amount of access you want with ease.

Still having difficulties identifying the tuner, which one is it ???
If im not mistaken then the circled item is an amp, ifso wheres the tuner ??? Am i looking in the right place ????

Sorry to trouble you Malcom in these festive times with my project.

You need a switched power source?

What sort of loading are you placing on it?

Just want it powered on when car is on thats all, dont want it on even when parked up mate.
Any idea on the aerial side ???? No other loading apart from the digi thingy. :)

That wire that you are holding is not the antenna lead, the leads are the 4 on the right(black)

A live feed can be taken from the multi plug on the left top, you need a meter or a bulb to find the live one, its simple to just melt the plastic with the soldering iron tip and solder the digi power led to it, then tape up.
Then the diigi box will turn off and on with the TV on the comand.

The aerials have always been a problem, the only way is to cut one on the end ones on the block of 4, do this about 2" from the plug and splice the lead to a short piece of Coax with a plug on the end to go into the digi tuner.

When joining screened cables take off the plastic about 1" back, pull all of the screen wires to one side and twist, then just use the tip of the soldering iron to melt the inner plastic, the wire is very thin, solder the 2 inners and insulate, then join the 2 screens and tape up. it does not matter if you do the splice inline or with the two cables together and join and tape up the ends

Well I have learnt something here, that is there is no difference to the 4 antenna leads, they are all the same, proving that there is only one TV antenna output.

I cut one of my own on the 4 way plug, and the Analogue TV works as good as before

Ditto on the antenna wiring, your holding the connection to the headunit in the pic you posted.

As for power i would not use the feed to the tuner because its a non switched feed from the rear SAM so your retrofitted tuner wont be in sync with the ignition.

I will see if i can find you a circuit 15/15R connection to use

I think its easier Dan to tap into the live feed on his analogue tuner there is plenty of room to tap into it

Thanks for that Maclom, so all i need is to splice into any one the block 4 attaching a coax to the end of it and job done ??.When you say you can take power from the multi plug you dont mean the orange wires do you ?

Once again thank you

Not the orange ones, there should be a brown one on the far left, that is the power plug,, it can be tested with a bulb or meter to be sure.

I used the one on the far side for the aerial, and as said there is no difference in TV reception

Personally I'd take power from socket 20 pin 2 on the SAM its 15 amp fused and is only active with circuit 15R, easy access as well.

Thats going to provide more protection than a circuit 30 connection.

Thanks Dan again, I would go so far to say that an inline fuse of 1amp should be fitted where ever he connects to
