Hi All

Have my NCT (MOT) today on my W220 S320, it failed the last time on an Offside Front (Right) Ball Joint, I've now had this replaced which I thought was responsible for the squeeking in that area but the squeeking is still there when I run over relatively minor bumps.

My Question, Is there more than one ball joint on that wheel? If so after having one replaced is my car still going to fail after I just paid out €940 for the balljoint and an airmatic compressor.

Thanks in advance

Niall

The squeaking is probably the ARB bushes. The balljoint failed on play not noise so it shouldn't fail again.

There are other bushes and arms with joints on them that can cause squeeking.

Get someone to give it a bounce and see if you can locate the noise.

Anti -roll bar bushes would be the culprit here! I believe there is a modification available through the main stealer to cure the problem, consisting of stronger brackets etc... which I had carried out to my previous W203.

The design is completely different on a 220.

Tried to ger herself to do it but she wasn't strong enough and just went "in there" when she looked. So have to get one of the mates over to give it a bounce.

Grab the side of the roof and rock the car violently to show up ARB bushes.

Gentle downward pressure on the wing may show up balljoint wear.

grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr failed it again, it was the top ball jointy thing of the wheel, not the bottom one that was replaced (although it need replacing according to the indie) he's now onto the stealership to get the part, getting highly irritated that's close to €2k I've thrown at it in under a fortnight.
