The dreaded MOT is looming and my parking brake is currently a bit below par. Can anybody point me in the right direction for adjusting it.?

Where is the adjuster located?

inside the rear wheel hub. Take off the wheel and look though the bolt hole for the adjuster (rear right at 10 o'clock right at 2 o'clock) inert screwdriver and move the adjuster downwards on the left hand wheel, upwards on the right hand wheel till the shoes just touch the drum. Check hand brake for 4 clicks (7 max) and re adjust if necessary.

Pretty certain mot doesnt count the clicks as they used to in the old days, so long as handbrake has enough force and some reserve travel it will pass.

It used to work on my Dads Rovers so....

Reverse at about 10/15mph, apply the parking brake hard, do this a couple of times and you may be surprised when you use it next.

Dave!

Thanks but there's no drums, 92' 500sl's have rear discs.

Is the same mechanism in the hub of the disc?

Hi

You have little Brake Drums on the inside of the disc. These are for parking brake only. Adjust as Ian says above.

Hope this helps,
