Some little scrote has nicked the large MB star from the front of the grille over the weekend and I'm looking for a new one. Dealers want £30 for a new one so I was wondering if anyone knows of anywhere else that has them cheaper?

The part number I've got is A129 888 0286 but this has apparently been superseded. An updated part number would help in the search if anyone has got one?

Thanks

£30 for a new one from the dealer sounds surprisingly good to me. At least you don't need a whole new grille!

Ordered it this morning so I guess you're right, and yeah, at least it isn't a whole grill. Just resent having to spend money on something that shouldn't really have happened in the first place.

Coincidentally, whilst searching for this image I found this one, so sorry to OT but I gotta share it :)

Know what you mean. I had the M-B tyre valve covers nicked, which was annoying enough :(

Seen that flying G-Wagen pic. before - fantastic photo!

On a similar subject, a stone has gone right through my star and cut an unsightly hole in the black mesh immediately behind the star. Anyone know how much that is to replace?

All answers and suggestions very gratefully recieved.

I saw one of these on Ebay last week when I was looking for a grille star, brand new and boxed genuine part, it was about £15 iirc. Had a look this morning but as I've looked at hundreds of ebay pages I can't seem to find it again. It might have been on German ebay, I really can't remember now. Sorry I can't be of more help.

Thanks for the help, feveroushly looking now. BTW does anyone know of a breakers for the R129 for annoying parts like this?

*UPDATE*

Well, just a couple of days after the star went I had a wee bump and broke the rest of the grille. Very annoying I know but the insurance are covering it.. Anyway it's in the bodyshop at the moment and they've ordered a new grille from the VIN which arrived yesterday, thing is the new one is a smoked silver colour and not gold coloured like the one that's in at the moment.

Mercedes say that's the one that's listed for the car, and the part numbers on both the old one and the new one are identical so the question is, can anyone give me the exact part number for a six blade gold coloured grille?

The model number I've got is.. 129 880 02 85 ..on both

Thanks

gold? it may have been modded in the past or the silver colour may have tarnished into gold. im sure oem grills are all silver!

Only the Silver Arrows edition was given a Silver grill. The stock r129 grill is titanium coloured. As the cars age, the finish usually dulls, and is often polished. Its this polishing that results in the Gold colour you mention. The grill was not intended to be gold.

Ah, that explains it then, thanks for the explanation. The gold colour was how it was when I bought the car about 3 years ago so I figured this was the original intended look. What 'colour' was the original titanium finish then? Looks like I'll be putting the grill they sent from Germany in then as this must be the original for the car.

Shame, I really like the 'gold anodised' look.

The original finish is a gunmetal colour.
