I'm told the rattling sound coming from underneath my 2000 R129 SL320 is the catalytic converters breaking up. Other than the OEM ones which are very expensive has anyone had after market cats fitted and if so would you recommend them or not?

Any advice greatly appreciated.

I took my car to a local exhaust specialist who tells me it's not my cats that are breaking up but my silencers. They've quoted me £750.00 to replace my exhaust from the secondary cats back. Does this sound about right, it would be in stainless steel, or are there any other options than the main dealer? :)

If you're near Birmingham go msl as they make exhausts while you wait. The exhaust side is know as torque flow iirc and are very good.

Ok so Torqueflow have quoted me £850 + the cost of a tail pipe, MIJ exhausts in Walsall quoted me £329.00 for supposedly the same thing, removing secondary cats and going from main cats through to the rear. That's quite a difference in price?

That's because the MIJ ones are cheap tat. :thumb:

I've used them for cheap jobs, for example rerouting the exhaust on a 4x4 where it was going to take a beating so price was paramount. They take a very long time, especially when considering the finished product.

I certainly wouldn't task them for something cherished.

It would be easier to follow and probably get you more relevant answers if you did not separate the thread into two that are so closely related.:thumb:

I do apologise I had a brain fart, which one is the best to close down?
