R230 350SL PSE guidance needed

Ok, done that, I used jump leads direct from the battery.
The motor "jumps" when current is applied.

I guess this means the pump is ok?

Jump is one thing, will it run continually with a little buzz for a few seconds and is it blowing or sucking air through one of its tubes… a picture of what you are seeing is really needed.

If the motor is ok then the fault must be elsewhere on the unit’s circuit board or at the connection plugs.
You will only see power at the vacuum pump plugs immediately after you press the remote fob to lock/unlock the car.

That proves the pump is good then.
If the vacuum pump is disconnected from a power supply for about 30 minutes then it might reset itself and work again when its reconnected.
Otherwise there is a fault somewhere with the PCB (PrintedCuircutBoard)or the plug… something blew the fuse.

You would need to examine the electrical connection plugs and PCB for signs damage/ corrosion with a powerful magnifying glass. It might be best to hand the pump to someone experienced in eletronics.

Are you sure the fuse, when it was pulled out to be checked, was put back into the correct slot.

Thanks for all the help, it is much appreciated.

I'll check the pcb and plugs, try refitting it.
I'll double check the fuse.

Anything in between the fuse and PSE pump that could be faulty?

I've had a few issues with PSEs. Sometime pulling the (good) fuse and replacing it again will reset. Sometimes the fuses are hard to see if blown or not.

The compressor can self destruct without any moisture - the impellers are fragile - but you seem ok here

The pump can run right at the 20 amp limit, so you could try a 25 amp fuse (no more!)

Make sure it's the correct fuse - box behind driver's seat, 20 amp just left of centre.

The car will disable some of the pump functions if it thinks there is a danger of over-running (I think about 20 seconds is the limit) at which point it needs to be put on STAR to reset. Not sure which functions are applicable.

These cars are becoming so complicated now, unless you can find something obvious then you may need to have the car put on diagnostics to determine exactly what’s wrong.

Perhaps the vacuum pump is ok and it isn’t receiving a signal when you press the remote fob button, check any other fuses that are in any way associated with the locking system.

One other thing, after you hook up the pump again, hold the remote fob right up to the door handle receiver and press the lock/unlock button to see if that makes the locking work.

Has one of the door sensors gone down?....had this recently on a SL500. The drivers door had packed up, which then knocked out the rest of the central locking. New door handle from MB (Unpainted) was £180

Ok, all back together and working!

I'm not sure what was ultimately wrong but all is well right now.

Thanks guys, Colin.

Ideally the pump should only run for about 2 to 4 seconds when you lock or unlock the car and the door pins should rise or fall almost instantly.

Perhaps the pump reset itself or you had a bas connection somewhere..
