Ok, so there is an outside chance I might be able to get my hands on an SL600 for a very reasonable price through a family friend. Just a quick question about fuel economy, and how it compares to a V8 (4.3/5.0/5.5). So what will an SL600 return to the gallon during 'normal' (c. 85mph ish) on the motorway driving?

EDIT: What do you get from a tank in terms of range?

V12's and concerns of fuel consumption don't really go together, but a mate has a CL600, which is a heavier car but he gets between 12mpg (if he's hoofin it) and 20mpg if he drives like a granny (downhill with the wind behind him) :D

Average is about 16mpg.

As a comparison, I get 22mpg on average from a 5 litre V8.

I get 250-300 miles of mixed driving to a tank. At 85mph the car returns 24mpg.

Its alot quicker on a motorway than the 500, and it drinks the same amount of fuel. I had a 1992 SL500 previously.

Thanks guys, I was really just interested to see if there was a million miles of difference between the V8 and V12, 24 mpg at a steady 85 sounds do-able.

Bring on the 12 cylinder goodness!

EDIT: KLP, how big is your tank?

I got 21.9pmg on a long motorway trip at 85 to 100mph, and at a constant 78mph motorway from Maidenhead to Manchester saw 24.7mpg, best yet, which I dont think is too bad for a 6.0 V12

Just being nosy here.....what year .....what price.......what if you don't buy....what happens to it?

Ps

Isn't the real question here about service & associated costs? Have heard V12's can hit you with some heavy bills ;)

I agree. Unless you do monster miles the other running costs will overshadow the slightly thirsty fuel economy.

I agree - slightly ot but the v6 (c320) can be as thirsty as the v12 and be very costly to repair as i have come to know, i heard there was not much differeance between the c32 and the c320 in terms of servicing and maintanance? But I imagine the v12 would be a mare to maintain more so the older it gets.

Still would have one in a heartbeat!
