Rear axle tyres on C63

I guess it depends on how far you want to take winter tyres. The Vredestein Wintrac tyres are a good choice even in 265 size, but going wider is generally considered counter productive.

You would be better off aquaplaning wise and icy conditions grip going for 235/35/19 all round, subject to the rim width restrictions. Although from memory the C63 has quite narrow rear rims for the tyre size. Perhaps another reason not to fit 265 width?

A 265/30/19 tyre is suitable to fit any wheel between 9 and 10.5 inches in width - the C63 rear wheels are 9 inches so are suitable.

In addition, I've used these tyres on my C63's every time (once the stock ones wear out) and they're are no clearance issues (not even close!)....in fact, they're more suited to the wheel. In fact, the 265 tyres actually fits correctly as the standard 255 tyre is slightly stretched to fit the wheel meaning you get very little rim protection from the tyre (you can see this by the way the tyre goes narrower towards the tread rather than staying at the same width as the wheel).

John757 - you should have no trouble on your E as it's built on the same W204 chassis.

Hope this helps guys!

Winters are now on! Took Palmball's advice and went for 265/30/19 at the rear (and 235/35/19 at the front). Roll on the mud and snow!

Akhan,
very nice sir!
i fancy some of them too:thumb:

So far I have found them to be quieter than the Advan Sports that came off the car, just been taking it easy while they "bed in", although I don't know if it was just my imagination or if it was because I was taking it easy anyway, but the car feels slower than before?!

Hi Akhan

how are those Vreds performing?

I have been out once so far, and I am very impressed. Not tested much cornering, but having tried rapid acceleration and hard braking on an untreated road (with no other cars) I can report that the wheels didn't spin at all and nor did the traction control interfere. Braking was equally impressive, no skidding or ABS assistance even on pretty harsh braking, although I felt I reached the limit and any harder would have made me skid.

Cornering I haven't been as brave with, and I didn't find anywhere safe to test cornering, but I did manage to drive around corners at my usual speed on untreated roads near my home without any skidding.

Overall, I am happy with my winter tyre investment. Now I just need to be careful of other drivers who will be running summer tyres tomorrow morning :s
