2004 CLK 320 avantgarde

the rear headrests are stuck firmly in the up position

roof wont even begin to retract, stops with a solanoid type click from the vacinity of the headrests then nothing more

pressing the rear headrest retract button on the dash gives the same click noise but the headrests dont go down.

I am assuming the roof wont go down past the headrests in this postion so is not even trying to

any suggestions

On my old 320 cabrio there was a tiny hole in the back of the rear seats that ou could put a key in and wind the headrests down if they didn't retract.

press and hold the headrest button as if to raise them and hold it in for 10+ seconds until you hear a click, then press the lower part of the button to retract headrests. I had the same problem with my 2000 clk 200.

+1 my drivers seat does this on a regular basis.

The headrest has forgotten where it is. I think mine maybe because my headrest is never moved. Pushing the button up resets it at "fully up", then it will lower. You need to drive them up and down a few times, holding on fully down and fully up to reset.

Also works for windows that won't shut.

Mine did this recently when i had the roof down and went a bit quick around a roundabout.... they shot up thinking i was rolling... The "how to" is in your manual however... look down to the right of each headrest and you'll see a small opening with a button in it, its way down by the mechanism, take a long "thin" screwdriver and whilst applying pressure to the top of the headrest stick your scredriver down the side of the headrest and push this button, it will be stiff, hold the button and push the headrest all the way down until it clicks back into its home place....

Let me know if you need further help.....

maybe the headrests have fired off again whilst he's been sticking his screwdriver in the hole - and he's got his head trapped between the headrest and the roof
...maybe someone should go round to where he lives?....

The guy posts, looking for help, and hasn't been back on since...WTF.

Yes, to be honest i very rarely help a "new member" on their 1st post, as experience is they post a question everywhere they can find on the internet and never check up on whether people have answered, or ever come back.

i'd rather spend my time helping a member who has joined the forum, introduced themselves and come across a problem and then posted.

it gets on my nerves.

rant over :D
