Rear Subframe for a W204???

Car is 2010 don't think they would honour it
It's a 30-year warranty, so you only have another 19 years to go. Just read up the thread a few posts and you'll see that a 2007/8 car was repaired at MB's cost just 4 months ago.

There are conditions, but MB seem to be taking an unusually helpful line on rotten subframes which are affecting some W/S204's and R171's. My suspicion is that because the corrosion is nigh on impossible for an MOT inspection to spot unless it has failed catastrophically that they don't want a great deal of publicity over it.

It's certainly worth asking the question of an MB dealer, rather than assuming they won't honour a claim.

Do you get intouch with any mb dealer

Goodwill claims success such as this often , but not always, depend on ownership profile---no of owners [ original purchaser is best]----full MB service history etc etc---attitudes vary from dealer to dealer so if you get turned down by one ask another---wave the prospect of putting future servicing in their direction as an encouragement?

Yes. Obviously it can help if you already have a relationship with them for sales or service, but it’s not essential.

If you find you’re not getting anywhere with MB dealers I’d be inclined to mention the recent MOT pass and almost immediate subsequent failure of the subframe, and that you think the DVSA (formally VOSA) should be made aware of the issue. If my hunch is correct, that should concentrate their minds.

Got in touch with mb LIVERPOOL they said if it has not got a sevice history very unlikely anything would be done

So what service history does it have?

Regardless of the answer to that question, I'd be asking them what relevance would service history have to premature failure through corrosion of a major safety-critical component?

Got intouch with MB Preston,a lot more accommodating than Liverpool, they called back and said they would need to see it and get intouch with mb after assessing it.If mb don't cover it they would charge me £192 for their trouble when you add the cost of getting it there and back if they say no plus the £192 i don't think I will bother.I think I will go for a recon one at £450 and put it down to "life sucks" thanks for your advice

I had the exact same problem with my W204 , subframe was rotting and it had pulled out the rear arm.
Rang Mercedes and was quoted over £1000 for subframe alone. Was a waste of time ringing them as as usual they were unhelful.
However I found a company called Eurosubframes selling them new for less than half the price. After a phone call with the very helpful guys in the office i ordered one from them.

The part arrived and fitted perfectly, bushes all intact. I could not have been happier with the service and the part supplied. To make things even better I opened the envelope which accompanied the part to find out it has 5 YEAR WARRANTY . WOWWWW.
Immediately put my mind at ease.

My advise is use these guys for a quick , reliable and pleasant purchase. So much better than paying over £1000 with MB with less warranty.
I have attached there website and phone number.

Did you fit it yourself?

Bummer. There are a few reasonable w204's out there. Will just have to keep looking and try and get a W203 one before mine goes. It had an advisory at it's last MOT.
How many miles on your C class ? Mine has almost 150K , the subframe is looking tatty but still sound . It is on my list of jobs :) . New ones do not exist and good refurbished ones hard to find , and how would you know the refurb was not rusty inside ?

Quite a few W203 C class will be written off over the next few years from this problem is my guess. If you find a decent subframe ..buy it .

It's a 2005 c180 with 100k. My other option is "webuyanycar.com" Their first offer is £1200 But I expect when they see the car they will screw the price down. The timing chain could also do with changing. Luckily I feel confident I could do both jobs. But not sure it's worth my time especially when half way through the job you discover it also needs this or that. eg I went to help a friend change his drive shafts. Half way through the job discovered someone had been there before and the torx screws had been rounded off. I ordered easy outs and a stud extractor will cut or drill out the heads and use the extractor as last resort.

If WBAC see it has a subframe advisory on the MOT history I would be surprised if they offered you anything for it. Or at best they might offer a tiny amount £.
