Rear view mirror warning light problem

My car has developed a strange, but seemingly harmless problem. I can unlock and start the car fine with both keys. But when it is started, the red LED on the rear view mirror blinks every ten seconds or so. This continues for what seems to be over a minute and then it stops. I've done some searching, but cannot find any previous reports of this problem. If anyone has any ideas I'd be grateful.

Apologies for my extended absence by the way, I'd put myself on an extended cooling off period!

I think this is the batteries in your remote need changing.

I'm sure the warning for that is the red and green lights flashing. I am only seeing a red light. It does this with both keys.
