Nothing wrong with them,I just noticed tonight whilst in the back of the car that when the head lights are on, if you turn on the child lock (on the centre console) the illumination goes out on the rear door switches, and comes back on when you enable them.In nearly 3yrs of ownership its the first time I ever noticed this.

I noticed this too ... great attention to detail

another I like is the way the wipers go automatically from slow/fast to intermittent when you come to a stop.

yet another is where only the rear courtesy light comes on if you open a rear door only.

and you can also get some idea of which bulb has blown when the bulb blown light comes on .. for example, if you start with no lights, and the bulb blown light comes on when you apply brake, it's brake light. If it comes on when you switch on side lights, it's a side light.

plus Audio 10CD .. there is a little light (which comes on with the main light switch) even when the unit is off so you know what to push. The display for Audio 10CD also dims at the same time when you adjust instrument illumination.

The little touch that I've only just found out about in the last couple of days is the fact that the speed limiter remembers your last limit setting even if you switch the car off and re-start, the cruise setting gets wiped though. I thought both settings got lost on switch off.

I don't have a physical speed limiter any more :( - just audible warning that can be set at any speed you like.

...but the rear window switches do dim with the dash illumination adjustment ! Dunno if they switch off though when you disable them - must say I never noticed that on my 202 -
FAR too much attention to detail !!

Ditto for comand, the on button, nav, cd, radio, tv and phone buttons are lit when the lights are on regardless of whether the unit is on or off, and when you turn the headlamps on the screen switches to an almost negative-look for night-time viewing! :)

Sometimes it's just the smallest touches that make you feel it's something special.

I've got a question whilst we're on the subject of features...

Why is it when I turn the ignition from engine on back to position 2, where the battery is just on, and then try to turn the engine on again, it doesn't start? I need to return the key back to the original position to get the engine running.

Probably an anti-carjacking thing or something, I never really understood it either but it makes my quick engine-restart MAS bodge a bit more trouble than neccessary.

Huh?

Is this rain sensor related?

Because I've got a sensor on mine (W210), and all it does is wipe the screen as and when needed, so more rain, and it becomes a slow wipe, less rain, it wipes the screen as and when needed.

What I like about my car:

1) Hazard lights become half duration with the ignition off.

2) The electronic dipstick if you leave the IGN at position 2 for a while....

3) ASSYST

4) The starter motor spins until the car starts without you holding the key in position 3.

5) The remote boot release that actually OPENS the bootlid, rather than just unlocks it.

6) The two stage bonnet opening.

7) One touch up/down on ALL windows.

What I don't like about my car:

1) The fact that a Mercedes had to go back to the bodyshop for corrosion work, and that I actually had to fight for it, in spite of it being universally known.

2) The fuel gauge is sometimes erratic, and yet my dad sold an 18 year old Bentley last year with one that never skipped a beat.

3) That it just didn't come with leather as standard. At least its cooler in summer.

the rain sensor probably deletes this feature.

Weird but slick :)

I don't know why this isn't on every car ever, it's so cool!

known fault, they updated the sensors, maybe you have some of the older ones.

That's down to choice, my previous W202's previous owner said his wife hated the leather seats because they're too cold! Not everyone wants leather!

Not on mine.

When in intermittent - Intermittent to medium speed then back to intermittent when stopped.
When in Medium Speed - Goes to Intermittent when Stopped
When in Fast Speed - Goes to Medium when Stopped.

What does it do when it rains then?

I thought on intermittent with rain sensor it did nothing until it rains, are you saying that in heavy rain when it would normally wipe constantly it drops to intermittent?

Ha! Brilliant. They dim with the dash lights too!!

I remember when my brother owned my car, whenever I sat in the rear and we went round a bend my knee would open the window (not good in the rain)

Anyone else noticed this design fault?

Yes it does nothing when dry. :p

Yes it drops to intermittent when stopped if raining. :(

I like the way the instrument dimmer switch dims all the switches including the sunroof switch but doesnt dim the ashtray light, so you dont flick the ash all over your console.(Not that i smoke, i just like the feature :D )

Illumination is one blue wire that runs throughout the whole car! :)
