We're in the sticks but do have mains gas (and sewage) ... unlike our neighbours :dk: Hence a gas Rayburn for heating & hot water here, although it's 30 years old now and parts availability is starting to be a concern (a replacement is £12k or so ).
Same here....no mains gas, no mains sewage and, until about 1990, only 15 phone lines..... but 32 houses.... so we couldn't have one!
Was quite a shock when I moved to civilization....well Bognor!...and had proper services. Would not live anywhere I could not cook on gas now. The Rayburn was either too hot or too cold and electric oven was rubbish.....can't understand why anyone would cook with electric through choice!

+1 for induction hob, first thing we did on this house 17 years ago was rip out the old hot ring electric 60cm hob and replace it with an AEG Electrolux 70cm 4 area induction hob. Have previously had gas and ordinary flat top electric, but induction is far and awayy the best. Aslo have electric pyrolitic oven now, have had electric ovens since at least 1982 (from necessity, no gas in village) and choice.

Before I got the Rega (it was only about £275 used) I was using an old Cambridge Audio amp. Even though the Rega is still at the entry level the sound difference is really noticeable. I’ve always been slightly sceptical about some hifi claims but I think at the lower end of the cost spectrum the improvements can be really noticeable. I’ve certainly found that anyway. The speakers have also changed quite a bit in sound now I’ve used them for a while. They seem to have a much more rounded sound, I’m really liking them.

I've had lots of CA kit over the years as pound for pound it's always been pretty good. But, yeah, Rega's a level up from CA/Yamaha/Denon etc.

When I really listen to my set up I can hear (relative to my best headphones) a lack of midrange detail. One day

Mrs Swotty wanted an induction hob when we bought out here in 2007 and revamped the old (and very brown) kitchen.

I said no, we need gas for when there is no .leccy. There's no mains gas outside the towns here, so bottled butane it is.

Being in the countryside we get several 'leccy cuts each year. Used to be for 3/4 days at a time but now just over a day at most. Gas is best.

We could use the bbq, but I do most of the cooking, so chef decides.

Induction does sound good, though, just not practical for us country yokels.
