hi

when i bought the car the alloys had been refurbished (but not very well) and some of the marks on the alloys are starting to show

i am thinking about having them refurbished again but this time properly ( i have not hit a curb in 2 years or had any other kinds of chips on it)

from reading the post there are 2 types of refurb

1) paint job (cheaper option)
2) have them polished etc

what is a reasonable price to have them polished etc (i will go for all 4 tyres or even perhaps my spare one as well)

i live 100 meters away from a alloy refurb place and would like to come accross like i know my alloy refurb prices :D when i go and see them

cheers

thanks, i live 100 meters from pristine alloy wheels so will hop over tomorrow and have a chat, i saw the 2nd link you gave me and they quote about £240 for all 4 wheels for a paint and diamond cut which i think is what i like, in fact i will get them to do my spare tyre as well :-)

will let you know how i get on

Pristine were favoured by my local MB dealer (now closed). I did visit them but chose not to use them because of the attitude of the Spanner Controller I spoke to, but that was years ago. As you're so close, there's no contest; even with a price premium, it's hardly worth the effort of going farther afield and their work will surely be satisfactory. If it ain't, you can let them know daily until it is . . .

Do report back.

Which wheels do you have? My recently arrived 1997 SL 500 has windmills, but it was originally on 8-holes, the only survivor being the spare. If yours are 8-holes, beware of renewing the polished and lacquered finish, which is intrinsically vulnerable. In fact, it was Pristine who first pointed that out to me and, like other refurbishers I've talked to, strongly recommended painting for a far longer life. You'd be lucky to get a warranty worth anything with the polished/lacquered finish.

pristine are not cheap but have done a great job on several sets of wheels for me.

BJV are very cheap, but I'm not sure the quality of the work is up to the same standards as others who may charge considerably more.

okay went to talk to pristine this morning

£55 per tyre regardless whether i go with diamond polish or paint job
they basically strip them back and then paint and or diamond polish
i told me if i wanted to keep the car original do diamond polish but more risk with regards to stone/chip marks and paint job is more dureable and better if you are keeping car long term, unless of course you are more concerned with the more shiney look of diamond polish

i think for now i will go with the non diamond polish paint job, if i don't like it i can always go for the diamond polish in 2 years time when i will have to change the tyres again.

I booked the car in for end of November to have both the tyres and alloys done at the same time

took the car in today and have now got 4x refurbished alloys and 4x new goodyears.

it looks great and £250 (for alloy refurb) well spend, all i need to do is now wash the car.
