Hi All,

My alloys are pretty wrecked so I am going to refurb them myself - quick question though, the wheel has balancing weights on the outside - can I just spray over these or do they need to be taken off and refitted?

Many thanks!

Matt

I think it would be fine to paint over them for now, but in the long run it would cause pain. The next time you get tyres, they will remove the weights, thus damaging the paintwork. And the new weights they fit won't necessarily cover the marks left by the old ones.

I would remove the weights paint the wheels then get them balanced with sticky weights.

I agree. But do garages charge extra for the sticky weights?

Oh right, I think to remove the weights I would have to remove the tyres which would be an extra cost - I am trying to do this on a budget really - the tyres have plenty of life in them though so wouldn't need changing for a while.

Thanks for the advice I will look into it.

The weights can be removed without the need to take the tyres off. I would also suggest take the weights off and get the wheels re-balanced after with stick on weights on the inside of the rim.
