Remap, lsd or both

I have a supercharged E46 also so I know what you are saying. You will have no issues with just gutting the secondaries with MOT or anybody as it is almost undetectable. The boxes stay in place.

Like the idea of gutting the cats but worried about mot failure if noticed. I have done some searches to try and hear a comparison with a standard car and one with gutted cats but most modded cars seem to have headers and exhaust upgrades as well. Anyone know of a link to a video that gives a good sound representation. I had promised myself that coming from a modded e46 m3 i would NOT touch the c63 but that promise has only lasted 2 months!!!

This is pretty representative of gutted secondary cats and a remap:

I suspect the microphone was right over the exhaust, not at the camera as there is very little wind noise.

Gutting secondary's is no MOT problem either, mine flew through its MOT with them gutted, no problem with passing emissions tests.

Thanks for the link. That is bloody loud. Sounds like its had the whole exhaust removed!!! Not sure i like it as it seems to have lost the amg sound. I think that i would need to be able to switch the noise on and off when required.

Probably the fault of where the microphone is located. It certainly hasn't lost the 'AMG' sound, it just makes it a bit more noticeable at higher rpm.

It's certainly not intrusive in the cabin, not like my Fi exhaust with valves open is.

I filmed this on my GoPro with a remote microphone, dangled out of my boot, the first 20 seconds, or so, was with valves open, I then accelerate up a slight incline, at just after a minute, with the valves shut. Huge difference, both in and out of the car.

Leave the exhaust as it is from factory.

Many thanks for all the input. It looks like a real 50:50 split with some saying dont bother as i wont be going to the track which i can understand. Then others saying do both and enjoy the experience. Can anyone confirm that the remap makes the car louder? I think as money isnt a worry, i will go for both options, ideally together, but if thats not viable then remote remap so i dont have to worry about the dealerships reflashing the ECU during a service / warrantee issues as i plan to continue the mb service history and LSD if i find that i cant make the most of the power increase. Kind regards. James.

Have you spoken to Olly at PCS yet ? He's the expert local to us. Which reminds me I have to get my remap booked in from BOTG

I can honestly say that I have the car re mapped and I have no need what so ever for an LSD. I rarely have the yellow light flashing and I don't do track days so it isn't necessary. For me personally I don't see the benefit of it as with my Michelin PSS it doesn't seem to struggle at all putting the power down....

Thanks for your comment supaer, very interesting as you seem to use the car in a similar way to me. Now i am thinking of not doing the lsd and just get the map done remotely.

Same here as per the above

I don't track mine and had the LSD done after the original re-map and it makes a lot of difference.....just felt more planted.....is the only way I could describe it.

i have never driven one with the LSD, so cant comment.. I just think for the uses i have for the car it really does not warrant a £1200 LSD. The remap for £600 is enough and the de catt route if you really want. I think it sounds a bit rubbish de catting and if anything would get an exhaust.

Defo do the remap first. Its not a huge difference but a difference and for £600 its worth it!

I have had a price of £850 from eurocharged for a remote map. I spoke to msl but acid is away until tomorrow and no one there could give me a price. Did you get yours in the group buy for that price?

No speak to Paul and Eurocharged Watford.. I think they may have been an offer at the time but try them as I got it for £650 with before and after remap

Yep that price seems about right. Go with the remap first then see if you need the lsd. I haven't so far.

It was Paul from Eurocharged Watford that quoted me £850! Now i am really confused!!!

remap and lsd def a good start both companies can do it as the eurocharged map is a generic map so will be the same and both can fettle it if needed get the best price and get it done these cars are addictive
but beware once you start its hard to stop and can lead to long periods of isolation between you and your car lol

oooooo maybe I was lucky to get an offer, im pretty sure he did say the 650 was an offer with the rolling road.
