yes it is possible,
I just snapped a junior hacksaw blade in half, put the end without the posts into the slots about an inch and wiggled it about, click click and both sides are free, took about 30 seconds, not that im stingy, I just wanted the job done now and couldnt be bothered to try to get halfords to do it or drive to the dealers or wait for somebody to post me a set,
And the back of the stereo in a `99 W208 has a standard ISO connector so the whole job has taken 5 minutes as the plugs are the same!!!
