Does anyone have a link handy showing how to replace the tail light on a '09 S-Class? It's friend's car, he bought the light (it's one strip, and I think it's LED) but it does seem a bit more involving than just replacing a bulb... thanks!

If you go to the American forum MBWorld.org and go into the W221 S-Class section they have realms of information re the LED upgrade.

No luck... most info I found was regarding removal of pre-LED lights and upgrading to LED, but not regarding removal of original-fitted LED lights. Not knowing what I might find when I start digging under the boot trim, I bravely sounded retreat and advised my friend to entrust this job to the dealer.

UPDATE - Good job I didn't try it... the dealer said that the internals of the rear lamp melted and a new complete rear light unit is required. No explanation from the dealer why this may have happened - other than an inexplicable surge or spike of some sort.

The car is French - and they only have 2 years warranty over there, not three plus Goodwill as in the UK - so the bill will be footed by the owner, around 600 Euro apparently.
