Respray the stretched limo

Black is my colour of choice, but I like the kind of dark silver colours.

However, if someone is good with photoshop, then nip to the Ferrari site and try and copy their light met blue if you can find it. JCT600 had a Boxter done in the Ferrari only colour, as a special,(they are both Ferrari, lotus and Porsche dealers -brooklands page for those interested) and it came off so well, Porsche offer it as a customer spec colour.

cant remember the name.

Normal silver doesnt do it for me in a limo/van and I know it already has Limo windows, so the colour needs to match and not contrast. White is too much of a contrast with black see.

If its that bad and is going to cost a lot too fix would it not be better to trade it in ?
I think 'bad' is all relative. I'm sure that as a van it is perfectly acceptable, but I am a fussy old devil and it just looks bad.

I'm not sure where I would stand on a four year old commercial vehicle, I suppose I have nothing to loose by writing to Mercedes-Benz. :o Just checked with the boss and the vehicle is all but five years old :o :o so scrub round writing a letter.

I don't really think this is a Mercedes-Benz issue, I personally think it is a paint\mother nature issue. I think that any similar coloured vehicle parked in exactly the same location\position would suffer the same fate?

Modern Sprinters have longer warranties and now offer Power Guard.

Buying a replacement vehicle is an option, but we would be looking at figures well in excess of £30,000 for the completed conversion. Our vehicle has covered some 8000 miles which is nothing, does it make sense to trade it in, or should I give it a facelift? You can guess the decision I have reached? :) I just hope I am well enough to get out tomorrow.:o

 I'm glad Scumbag did not recommend Ferrari red with a big number 1 on the vehicle:devil:

Black would make the inside of the vehicle like an oven, plus we already have pictures of this option :)

When my friend rolled his Maserati and had to take it back to Moderna he put a big number 7 on each side to hide his embarrassment, but he forgot to scratch the numbers that were over the damage :mad:

:o :o Unfortunately I am in far too much discomfort to go out today. The morphine is not controlling the pain and I'm not all that 'with it!' :)

I tried talking to Vigurs to get an idea, but as soon as I mentioned I wanted a van resprayed, they weren't interested.

Blinking racists. :)

It could be I didn't get the words out in the right order though :o Anyway what about this colour option?

John
I hope your back is a bit better now, good luck with it..:)

The bodyshop probably doesn't have an oven large enough for a van so can't do it. You need a commercials coachworks.

The colour in the photograph is Ruby. Nice colour but you probably don't really need to go to the expanse of a full body respray, just the bleached parts, and even they may polish up hten be laquered.

but what about simply having it sprayed red again but with one of the more modern metallics that do not fade

It's not he paint pigment that is the problem, it's the lack of laquer. The flat colour wont fade if laquered.

Red still fades even when applied as a 'clear over base'.

I sprayed my father in laws mx5 4 yeas ago because it looked like a chalky white red colour.
I painted it in the same colour, but used the 2k system as oppose to the original cellulose (cob system) that was on it from new.
Still looks brand new now.

Hi Grav
I note your still on line and hopefully this morning I am being chucked into the stretched limo and taken for a ride :)

What recommendations have you regarding the type of paint?

Will they know what I'm on about if I mention a 2K application and what about this UV top coating?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Yours sincerely
John

All done and dusted.

My first choice was unable to do anything as their bake oven was not big enough to accomodate our 'stretched limo'

The second venue are sending me a written quote for a complete respray in tealite blue. The van will be baked in one oven and all the fittings will be done in a smaller one. (All doors, including the sliding door and bonnet) They are planning on a minimum of 80 man hours work but that is flexible.

The chap looked at the side and thought there was nothing wrong with the paint; then he went to the front :o :o Nuff said. We have agreed a price and are now waiting for the written quotation.

Thanks everyone and watch this space.

John

[cheekymonkey] Come on then, ballpark figures? Do tell.[/cheekymonkey]
What did you guestimate? :D

I do remember asking folks to hazard a guess. :)

The way I'm looking at this is:

To replace the vehicle will cost approximately £30,000 less what I would get for the trade-in, which in my experience would NOT be very much. The whole insides of the present vehicle would be transferred into the new vehicle so there would be absolutely NO improvement in ANY department.

The alternative is to revamp the current model but there is the cost of this complete respray.

The annoying thing is that there are lots of nice colours out there, but I don't have much oppurtunity to see them. I have just gone onto the Mercedes website and looked at the very light metallic blue of the R-class, but what does it look like in real?? :o :o As stated I have plumbed for tealite, but that is not set in concrete and until it is then..... help!

The impoverished one.:D

If it gives you pleasure, why not. Darker colours look better on such a big vehicle IMO. Tanzanite?

I think it will be a lot more than that as a lot of work is involved to do it properly... I wreckon double that..

:) Door handles will be removed, plus the grooveway type bits for the sliding doors, light fittings, side indicators, new badges, quite a list in fact.

I'm wondering if there are xeon lights for a Sprinter? :)
