Reverse Camera For Comand NTG2.5 ....

Yes it will have a green fakra video input but it will not auto switch to the camera when reverse gear is selected like the NTG2.5 does. You will have to manually select video on the Comand unit.

Any camera will work, just make sure you get a NTSC one.

The NTSC is a video standard used mainly in the states I believe. Why do they not accepts pal (UK) etc?

If you connect a PAL camera you get a black and white picture. There is no option to select between PAL and NTSC for the video input on the Comand unit itself or in STAR.

Thanks NPUK :)

So if I understand it correctly, I need to buy a camera and cable, fit the camera, run the cable through the car and connect to the Command unit? Then have it coded for use with Star?

Yes camera, fakra to rca cable and coding via STAR to enable the video input.

fakra rca | eBay

I got the green fakra to rca from the seller in china, there is a UK seller but it is over triple the price.

Very good job: one additional question:
in one thread I found that you may have to install a reversing module between camera and Comand. Is that correct?

You need a fakra to rca adapter, can be purchased on ebay.

On one item in ebay I found the following:
"All units Ntg2.5 with SD card reader has rear view camera socket.
We have a rear viev camera ( hdd units) ntg2.5 made for MERCEDES units NTG 2.5 HDD. ASK FOR DETAILS."

Sorry for the stupid question.... are you really sure you need a Fakra cable in case of NTG 2.5 ?

If yes, which type of Fakra cable do you need?
I got from other forums that it should be Fakra E, and the other end part is not really called RCA but something else..
Ideally, can you post a link where to buy a cable that would make the job?

The mercedes cameras have a power supply module, I think this is what they are referring to

I rather think that the NTG with SD card slot have different wiring.
Could that be possible?

I have bought the Factory camera for the sprinter Just in the process of painting it to match the van, I intend to connect it to the NTG2.5, obviously there will be the Green Fakra link for the video but the camera also his six other wires, Some are easy but I have no clue how to connect them to the NTG or how it auto switches on, obviously putting it in to reverse will power the camera and I'm assuming the Mic is always on, but does anyone know the connections on the ntg2.5 unit its self

The NTG is a 2010 with the standard A,B,C & D blocks Green Blue Mustard and twin white Fakra's and an 18 pin connector see pic.

The green Fakra is the only connection to the NTG2.5 for video. The other connections will be for power etc. If it didnt come with instructions you need someone with access to WIS to get them for you.

I would say your missing a piece of hardware, I guess the power supply module Richard previously mentioned that MB cameras use.

Obviously an aftermarket camera is simpler to connect, it just required three connections, power, ground and the video connected to the green fakra input using a rca to fakra adapter.

The NTG2.5 automatically switches to the video input when reverse gear is selected once it has been coded via STAR to enable it so you will need to get that done.

Cheers npuk,

On the sprinter camera the Power/control module is built in to the housing of the camera.

I have a drawing but it does not align with the connections on the ntg2.5 and not all of the wire functions are obtainable, obviously the reverse signal and Ground are pretty easy and two of the others are for the inbuilt mic.

Just a little confused as to where the cables attach, I have accces to wis but its so poor and difficult to use, I'm used to using the VW elsa/etka which by comparison is far superior,.

One other question, Does anyone know what the second mic connection is for on the ntg2.5?

It is for a second mic (think some cars use two). I would assume the camera mic connects to the 2nd mic input, though I dont really see the point of having a mic for a reverse camera.

Dear NPUK,
Sorry to disturb you again.. Like you suggested, I bought a Fakra to RCA cable for the camera.

What else do I need?

1) RG58 coaxial cable with double Fakra plug for the new COMAND 2.5 for radio reception with an antenna (see here) ?
2) Microphone extension cable, needed to original microphones in the interior mirror to join (code 386) ready to connect the cable set with Quadlock plug in and 6pin connector (see here) ?
3) Anything else?
4) Do I need this (see here) ?
5) Any STAR software tricks as well?

Thank you!

5. Coding via STAR to enable the green fakra input, navigation on the cluster and phone controls if you dont already have phone pre-wire.

Thanks for the tip, I ordered the kit.

Two more questions:
1) where did you put the bluetooth antenna?
2) is the a kind of guide of installing Comand NTG 2.5 with SD? I would like to translate it for the car-audio installer, to help him and be sure it's done in the proper way.

Thanks!

No guide specifically for NTG2.5 but this will help: Removing/Installing COMAND & Audio on A & B Class

Richard from Comand Online has previously posted:
Stick the BT antenna to something plastic, I tend to stick it to the outside of the plastic cage the COMAND/Audio-20 is sat in, on the drivers side. Avoid sticking it on a metal cross member because the metal acts as a ground plane and reduces the range.

On point 5 the audio installer told me that MB dealers dont want to do it. But he told me there may be a key combination you could execute from the radio. Is it possible?
