Anybody got any tales to say between Elishaw and Corbridge?

I can't find any better rollercoaster ride even better than ****'s bridge at Aboyne but did noticed 73 accidents in the last three years sign at the Elishaw. Must be a lot of spirits along this stretch of road but I found it very enjoyable a short cut coming back from Scotland. :D

This is the road where I nearly met my maker, a few years ago travelling to Scotland in February in my Volvo V70 T5, wife and kids on board and the snow started coming down really bad, was supposed to be meeting a colleague from Bellingham but he was snowed in. I kept on going and the snow kept on coming this was by far the worst conditions I have ever driven in including winter in Sweden and Norway. As you say this is one hell of a roller coaster road and one I have travelled many times, as I headed up to Corbridge, brakes iced up, traction control working overtime I had just passed the Slayley Hall turn off which sweeps in a vicious right hander and down a very steep hill. On the exit from the right hander there was a Peugeot 207 firmley embedded in the stone wall with massive front end damage engine running and interior light on. My wife spotted what she thought was a young girl in the car so I stopped positioned my car safely donned the reflective coat and went to investigate. Managed to get he out of the car through the passenger door window, as I did so we heard another car approaching, it was a VW Golf who had lost it on the same bend and was now heading directly for the both of us. The car went into a sideways slide and hit the Slayley roadsign broadside, the poles bent but fortunately held the car, If they had not both me and the girl would have been crushed against the side of her car. I left the girl with my wife and then went back to help the Golf driver who was a guy in his late twenties very shaken by the incident. I dropped both of them at a local hotel in Corbridge as neither of them were injured apart from a few minor cuts and bruises. Then informed the police who promptly shut the road behind me I carried on on our way to Queensferry Lodge in Edinburgh and it was not until I was there in the bar that the seriousness of the situation sank in and how close I had been to serious injury or death. The A68 a great drivers road but a killer when the weather closes in.

Ahhh memories of my airbourne Audi Coupe...... I really should have taken note of the 'Blind crest' sign and not laughed about toothpaste tubes wearing sunglasses, when you take off over the hump the drop the otherside is incredible. When I landed I could only hear a loud noise that I assumed meant that the suspension had had it..... pulled over and looked, it was just the undertray that had smashed and was dragging under the car.
Oh and the the samll matter of a few drips of oil........
I landed that hard that I compressed the sump, instead of having rounded edges they were sharp, it had hit so hard that it had resealed itself but almost like cutting the bottom off and inserting it upside down.
Got back to London left it over night and it still had oil in it.
When it says blind crest beleive it!!!!!!!

Never driven north, always south. Driven twice after Christmas, luckily no snow but there were further up north near the border.

Someone edited the bridge name near Aboyne. Hey this is the actual name of the bridge. Do you really have to censor the noun for a male chicken? :D

Is Cockbridge the one on the old military road somewhere near Tomitoul? I have vague recollections of that area from my time in Scotland,is one of the ski resorts not round there somewhere as well? been a while since I was there, but happy memories of Scottish Lasses:)

No not a Scot I managed our company operations out of Paisley for a while, but still do a lot of work in Scotland, particularly Deeside up to Aberdeen and then West Coast from Oban down. Used to live in Ayr whilst I was up there. This is the reason I will be at the Stirling meet on 11th Oct as I can tie it in to a business trip, you going?

Been back after a week. Slaving away painted the window frames, made a wooden window frame, trimmed apple and cherry trees, cleared the rhones, changed the engine oil. Never ending jobs. Maybe next summer. Tempted to go to Braemer game, last been there in 1992.

Stopped by with wife at Blackford for a sip for StratIsla whiskey, really nice. Made my holiday. £25 a bottle. There is another one from Skye - Connoisseur £50 a bottle.
