Sorry for this. I have trawled through all of the rust and warranty posts but can't find the answer I need.

I have rust coming up under the paintwork on all 4 wheel arches and my car is under 8 years old but does not have FMBSH.

My specialist says I should have 'no problem' getting MB to sort it out but has advised that I get it to my local dealership well before the cars birthday in December.

Says "it's just a matter of getting hold of the bodyshop manager and taking it from there".

Is he right and is there anything I need to be aware of?

Cheers.

Don't know if they'll go for it without FMBSH ...

Worth a try i guess ..

Numerous cases of MB dealing with the rust issue in many cases where there is not full MBSH

i have had some done when car was 6.5yrs old no MB service since 2003!, i think if the area is a known problem then there should be no problem, try and find a dealer with a decent bodyshop manager, he will probably not work for MB as they usually sub the work out to authorized repairers, one problem that can occur is that once approved, repairs have to be started within one month, if not they have to re-apply for authorisation.
My advice, if you get it done, sell, because it will pop up every where, a lot of which won't be covered and who wants to be taking their car in every year or two for rust repairs if you pay or not? I have given up on mine and won't buy another untill i'm convinced they have delt with the problem.

A good point. I'm sure Mercedes thought building cars that rust would encourage a faster turnover of new cars due to people not wanting a rusty car.
In reality it's probably slowed new sales due to people waiting for proof of the problem being fixed before they part with more money.

It certainly kept my wad in my wallet.

Update

Took the car into the dealership today. They took copies of my service booklet, V5 and the pre warranty check I paid for from MB Huddersfield 11 months ago showing no issues and pics of all four wheel arches and wings. Bodyshop manager agreed it was a fairly clear cut case and they are submitting the pics to MB today for approval.

Any chance they'll say no? (I'll find out tomorrow apparently).

Further Update

Just had a call from the dealership and MB have agreed to do all the required work under the 8 year scheme. Car goes in on 21st July.

They are providing a courtesy car and have agreed to pick up a couple of stone chips FOC on the offending panels as part of the work.

First class service from bodyshop manager, dealership and MB head office.

Take a bow Mercedes Carlisle.

Intresting, i have a 2000 CLK 55 and i am going to try the main dealers with the same thing.
