s320 cdi esp,airmatic faults

not had a chance to take to merc yet, however a mechanical minded friend suggested it couls be a sensor on the gearbox, does this make sense to anybody. Also is there ant way of checking the EGR valve without replacing it first.

thanks

A mercedes mechanic found the fault which was a loose wire on the ESP and the mass airflow , this cured all the problems, however he said the car was not in limp mode as i had thought. However i still have a problem that when i put my foot down there is initially a lot of power, but if i try to boot it again there is no power and the car drives normally. I have had the CAT changed as this was blocked, but this hasn't cured it either, ANY IDEAS

I dont think that was the problem. That may have been one of the problems but the fault you described sounded like a short-circuit in the network inside the car called CAN BUS.

Either one wire went to ground or one data wire crossed with the other data wire. Losing some ESP connection does not cause the door to stop working. So I would keep looking.

In particular it seems that data coming from the accelerator pedal is being lost. That indicates the same thing.

:) I have just noticed the start date of this thread and I accept you are in no rush to fix this problem, but instead of getting all types of advice, some very good, but some I will tactfully describe as doubtful; why not bite the bullet and go to a main dealer and get the problem resolved?

Good luck
Regards
John
