Can these mirrors be repaired? I have seen a car I want to buy but the mirror is floppy. Maybe the drive teeth etc. are broken I do not know.

Can the workings be purchased to repair the function.

Regards,
Steve...

Replacement

Over 200 views and not one comment? An indication of where to buy a replacement would of sufficed!

I'm sure if any of the 200 viewers who took the time to read your post knew the answer they would take the time to post a reply. Have you tried asking your local parts dept, they will look up EPC and answer you there and then. Even if you only got a part number I'm sure you could do a web search...

I've had a brief look on EPC , not knowing the full details of your car, all I can see is what is described as "mirror without glass" looks like the part that does all the moving, the MB price is nearly £200. I suggest a call round breakers for a second hand unit.

Hi, thank you for taking the time to do that. I have priced a replacement minus the glass and outer cover as they are all ok and was quoted £168 but not sure if that included vat. The problem with it is there should be a plastic cage around the cog that rotates the mirror in and out and this appears to be broken off compared to the passenger side and when the mirror is activated it is forced clear so does not drive. I have seen patterned ones for £150 inc. vat but like you say it would be worth trying a breaker.

Thanks again,
Steve...

If it were me I'd rather pay for a genuine used part than a new pattern part when it's in such an obvious place. At least from a breaker you should get the whole unit in the right colour.

I always prefer original parts and if I cannot get the workings from a breaker I will purchase a new one. Don't need the glass or cover, just the workings.

Is it definitely the gear mechanism that gone cause because I believe the wires snap easily, that's the problem with mine. Good luck

I doubt very much you can buy parts to repair the existing mirror as they ususally come as an assembled unit with no serviceable parts.

You could try here

Mercedes S Class | Mercedes | Wing Mirrors | Wing Mirror Man

The best bet is probably a specialist breaker though. Bear in mind there may be differences in part numbers between models to account for features like auto dimming etc, so check the part number on you existing mirror if you can.

OK, thank you. It is definitely the drive as you can see it move out and disengage when it is in operation. The housing surrounding the drive is missing compared to the other side. I basically need the full unit minus the mirror glass and external housing.
