Hi all and thanks in advance for any help given.

Yesterday on the last mile of my journey my 04 320 CDI decided t not want to accelerate thought it may have been due to lots of rain and the fact I had it in sports mode and was using the manual shift around the back lanes.

This morning I started up and noticed a bit of white smoke and put it down to the cold weather. Got round the corner and looked in my rear mirror and it was like the Red Arrows were behind me!! Turned round and parked up.

Upon taking the engine top cover off this evening I saw that the injector closest to the bulk head has a build up of black stuff around it. See attached photo.

I removed coolant lid and put my hand over it whilst my partner revved it up and could not feel any pressure building up against my hand. Doesn't appear to be any oil in the water. Can't see any water in the oil. Water level is ok too.

So my question is please would this what looks like leaky injector cause the white smoke and loss of power? If so will it simply be (fingers crossed) a case of cleaning it all up and tightening down or is it going to be more involved with the flaps in the manifold etc?

Any suggestions or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Get the injector re-sealed. Its a common job for any MB garage.

Get it plugged in for the lack of power. It looks like the turbo has given up.

Hi BlackC55

Thanks for your reply. So just spent all afternoon under bonnet. Changed fuel filter and after a few hours of turning and pulling got the injector out!

Silly question where does the seal go? Got a new one with stretch bolt from Merc this morning but cant see the old washer! Would have thought it would have been on the end!

You say Turbo? Is that what you think the white smoke is then? Thanks again

The seal will be down the injector hole. It's a convex copper washer. Very specific in shape.

Make sure you re-cut the injector seat otherwise it will leak again.

I've done a how-to in the engine section on the forum.

After thinking about it i thought it would probably be stuck in the hole! Will take a look at your how to guide thanks again.

Hi BlackC55 found your guide. Superb. Shame I didn't find it yesterday as would have save a lot of time trying to get the injector out! Anyway all cleaned up and refitted only thing was I got distracted and leant on the spill pipe (I believe it is know as) and broke one of the T pieces as they look metal but are only plastic. Are these high pressure or low just for excess diesel to go back in the tank please? Does the pipe come off as I can see you can by these but couldn't get the pipe off the first one at the front. Thanks again for you help very much appreciated.

JUst been out to check and noticed when i turn on ignition there is like a snap / crack noise. Not sure if it was there prior to doing the work i have done. Any ideas please what that could be? Thanks.

Hi ok diagnostics shows turbo has gone so is there a guide to remove turbo please? Thanks

i have the same thing with my injector sealant leaking if you did fix it how much did it cost you ? mine is c220 cdi 2001

Hi Engama

It was very expensive from Mercedes. A whole £2.05!!! ;-) Took me 3 hours to get the injector out as it was stuck fast. I used brake disc cleaner to loosen it. There is a good How To Guide by BlackC55 to get these out and replace the seal.

By the way my white smoke turned out to be the turbo. Must have just gone as no noticeable noise was coming from it but when stripped down the fan / blade was moving around.
