Hi my sat nav appears to be faulty it shows my position in random places a long way from my actual position, I assume the problem is with the GPS signal does anybody have any idea for a fix? car is a 2006 CLS 320CDI thanks in advance

I had this exact problem in my W211

It's cured it self after I had a dead battery.
Try disconnecting the battery over night and see if it resets itself.

thanks I'll give it a try, will the radio need a security code or anything when i reconnect?

No security code needed. It is probably the GPS antenna. The good news its not hard to fix.

If you are near M3 J3, go see Alfie via Mercedes Retrofit Specialist - Comand.co.uk

Otherwise, buy this

https://www.commandonline.co.uk/mercedes_gps_antenna_fakra.html

and comandonline will give you some advice how to fit, you do have to unclip the left boot trim, so if you are fitting yourself you have to be happy to take parts of car apart

Had to have a new GPS aerial fitted to mine when car was about 3 months old.
Not an easy job on later cars as the complete roof lining had to come down and I believe it was the rear housing on window (estate) was removed and had to be re-bonded by specialist window company.
Thank god it was covered by warranty.

It doesnt have to be that complex. There is a much much easier way to fix this.

Hi just getting around to looking into this problem, does the antenna plug directly into the disc player unit in the boot and if so does it need to be removed to gain access to it

thanks

Just to say - I had this on mine and my car thought I was in the North Sea a lot.

Car got very wet!

I assumed an antenna but it turned out to be a disc-reading error in the DVD Nav drive...

Actually it started working again by itself but Star diagnostics showed a "disc read error" had been logged.

I would check the disc is clean and not scratched.

Well I changed the antenna and tried another disc but it still thinks I'm about 60 miles away :(

Hmm.

In that case, get yourself over to MSL Performance in Brum - not far from you and they know their stuff!
