Toshiba Satellite Pro laptop. After maybe a minute or so after first switching on it has slight but noticible screen flicker. This goes on for 20 - 30secs then it's fine for the rest of the session. Is it on the way out?

Its most likely to be the cold cathode tube driver. To confirm its not the video chip itself, just hook up an external screen and see what that does.

Exactly the same problem as the Toshiba Satellite Pro's we had, both had a screen flicker on start up which just got worse until the screen actually failed completely I think it was inverter problems that caused it but not sure as its a while ago. Never been near another Toshiba product since.

If its not on the way out its waving bye bye.:( One of the more vulnerable aspects of lap tops is the hinge electrical connection between the body and the screen and can give rise to problems as you describe. Unless its under warranty or you are prepared to DIY then present prices would indicate a replacement in the event of failure.:dk:
