Screenwash

I got the Lidl's screenwash at £6 for 5L, good for -30C undiluted, and -20C at 30% concentration. we'll see how that goes!

Are you guys happy to mix screenwash, ie just top up with whatever type you have bought regardless of what is already in there??

No! This can lead to sludge developing due to incompatibilities in some of the ingredients of various solutions. Also my previous car developed a very nasty swamp smell when I mixed solutions

Jeyes fluid would have sorted that :thumb:

LOL..

I flushed the bottle using a hose pipe, the muck that came out was revolting!!

So how do you start afresh if the container is, say, a quarter full??

Tesco Pink stuff
I find a lot of cheaper ones smear

Topped up a strong dose as the weather is getting cold

I was given a 50L drum of the concentrated comma stuff recently and on the outside of the drum it claimed it was good to minus 30 neat.

A quick check with the refractometer revealed the truth was a mere minus 9... tut tut.

That's only claimed to work to -9C, we had many days in the last two years down to -19C.
Incidently, Tesco used to sell that for £2 but last winter it increased to £3 as soon as it got cold.

Dead easy one Holts screenwash from Costco then add Mineralised methylated spirits to the mix pour in the washer bottle and you'll never encounter weather in the UK that will freeze your washers, my windscreen and headlight washers worked on all our cars through last years bad weather.

This was a little tip I picked up in Sweden :thumb:

Most Mercedes, unless you have headlamp wipers, have a "bung" you can "spring" to the front of the pump. You can then rinse the tank with a hosepipe.
Easy on 124s and 202s not so sure on others.

The best stuff I've come across is the Autoglym quick clear screenwash. I buy it online for about 3 quid, and 500ml is enough for 5l with protection to -45c and it even smells nice!

Also far more convenient to keep in the car in case to needing a top up. Most petrol stations have a tap for topping up with water....providing of course it isn't frozen solid.

I have had a few instances at motorway services on the M4 that have involved buying 3 litres of evian due to frozen forecourt taps.

...so when you put your cars in for service, how do you make sure they don't top up your screenwash tank with MB's stuff (assuming you have chosen some other make)...?? big note on the windscreen or something :dk:??

also, can you buy MB's stuff from anywhere other than a MB dealer??

I can tell you what screen wash I dont use....the one we use in the cars at work, we are the garage hand makes his cat pee into judging by the armoa!!

ref

just bought 2 litres from volkswagen £3.60 a litre good for -70 so 50/50 mix will be good

Lidl. £6 for 5L of -60C screenwash, or if diluted 1:1 it will be -20C.
