Sequentronic gearbox, clutch and warranty.

Hope it works out.

Remember you can get anything on a car inspected by the RAC & reported on. Did that with a Vauxhall I used to own and the continual "no problem found" (jumping out of gear except when in the hands of the dealer of course) suddenly became a new gearbox.

Unit and Component Inspection

Something of an investment required but if a problem exists difficult for anybody at the MB/Dealer end to then dismiss you complaint in the traditional manner.

Sorry to be devils advocate here but You've covered 38000 miles in three years, Your location is London so I assume a fair amount of town driving, which is why you went for the semi auto over the manual, and the clutch may be worn out.

That doesn't sound unreasonable to me.

Just because you aren't controlling the clutch manually doesn't stop it from wearing just as quickly.

sorry dieselman - i disagree. thats less than 13000 miles a year. I had a manual car for 3 yrs living in SE london and didnt have the clutch changed or experience problems and have never heard anything from the guy who bought it for me - that was covering 20000 SE London and Kent miles a year.

TBH i drove like a good 'un too!

Even tho I live in london, my university is out of london so the majority of my mileage is on the motorway. I drive conservatively to say the least so I doubt it has anything to do with that. At the end of the day, the dealer has told me that it could be any number of things in the gearbox, I think it should be there duty to check it out and tell me what it is, then give me the option to go ahead with the work or not, if it would be at a cost to me. Also, I find it hard to believe mercedes would make a car that would make loud thumping sounds that inturn affected the differential and the plate on it everytime a clutch has worn down. Logic would dictate that it is a warranted fault but the dealership is hell bent on making me pay for something considering they did 2-3 days of work on the car with no results, but a new differential put on the car.

ask how many others ie people on this sight have had problems and ask for an independent garage to check it out so many garages will help when you are up against mbz

The guys at the dealership thought it was a bit odd actually - say they havent come accross this with the sequential boxes with many more miles on the cars - get it to an independent to check out.

Hope things get sorted soon mate.

Thanks for the reply Rich. I'm just waitin on a return call from Mercedes to see if they are willing to do anything for me. If the liability is still pinned on me then Mercedes have just lost themselves a future customer. Not that that means anything to them, just saying.
