I am looking to replace the audio 30 head unit i have for something that is capable of suporting an ipod and also bluetooth.

My short list is

Becker Grand Prix

I really want a sleek OEM look and will probably go for the becker although with the ipod connection your looking at nearly £400.00...

Does anyone have any other suggestions or pictures of these or other stereos in there car?

Many thanks :)

I agree the first looks far more OEM

I'm tempted to change my Audio 10 for a double din unit but not the command version. Very few 'look' oem and that puts me off...

I think your limited to Alpine and Becker to get an orange backlite too... But Alpine just would not look right in the CLK.

Alpine KDC 9855R

I have adjusted the blue buttons to match the dash orange lights, looks very nice.

Becker headunits always sound great as a bonus!!

I had one just after owning the CD-40 (was going through headunits once a week for a while) and found that it was absolutely useless on slightly scratched CD's and home burned discs...Brilliant sound quality though.

Can pick up a good used example for well under £200...

It also doesn't come standard with an amp built in, so has to be used with external amps, or the optional add on amp block.

If I ever get to swapping HU, it will probably be for one of these:

Swallow 6 CDs and is in-dash...:)
Price a bit frightning though...

I love this unit, I got this in because it gave an OEM(ish) look. The cool thing about this head unit is that you can change the colour of the buttons and the display to match your dash lights which is handy if you move it to another car like I did recently.

I doesnt support bluetooth though, sorry.

I have an Pioneer 8600 at the moment which is a year older than the P88. It sounds brilliant and has loads of features, yours just looks a little slicker than mine!

That actually looks quite nice for an aftermarket unit. Very understated, great looking unit.

That was the problem; trying to find a unit that looks suitable in the SL. Actually had an Alpine 9855R sitting spare, but it was too "silvery" and didn't look right.

This one does the beans for me, especially tied up to an Alpine PDX amp :bannana:

The Becker or the Pioneer will look fine in the dash, as would any of the high end Clarion and Kenwood units, you'll find the more you spend the better the sound quality and less garish the design.

Won't it take a double din? There's a new Blaupunkt double din with bluetooth built in, or you could do what I did...

That does look nice, although i would like to keep the cubby hole and dont really need a double din. I have found a nice subtle clarion unit as a put me on just need to win it as its on ebay... Failing that i think i will have to get the becker!

There does appear to be more potential than i first thought though!

That is a beautiful lookin headunit you have in your car. What model number is it? Does it still retain the steering wheel controls?

Thanks
Kam

The Kenwood is a DDX5022, last years model so get a discount. New one is out and is almost exactly the same, just 200 quid dearer.

Steering wheel controls - my installer says there's not a proper working interface, so no.

I've got a cheapy Halfords S7000 DVD player in mine, while i sort out my carputer, sounds really good for a cheap unit and has the bonus of an SD card and a USB input for playibng MP3, you can bung mp3's on a DVD and paly em from there too, tuners not brilliant but i suspect i might have an iffy arial mast on my benz, its pretty old, the unit is fairly disctrete as well, not as flash as a lot of modern stuff and it has front rear and sub out RCA's on the back, for the money its an impressive unit.
