Show me your after market head unit!

We've fitted a Becker Mexico 4337 in the ML pretty much as soon as we had it - dramatically improved sound quality, but importantly for me looks OEM:

I would also recommend a becker. If you like the looks of the one above, then go for one on ebay. The best you can get is the 7820 Traffic Pro High Speed so you get a navi as well. Really easy to fit and it looks even better than the mercedes units. The material is the same as the buttons on the cars.

The navi is awesome as well. Lets put it this way, I liked it so much that I bought two so that I can have one in my car back in Greece as well. The navi puts the mercedes w210 command to shame in terms of functionality.

Another good thing is that people in the UK do not appreciate the functionality of these units. The first one I bought from france came at £260 through ebay.de as they know what they are. I bought the second one in the uk for £142 which is a steal. If you are lucky you can pick one up for £150

Not really interested in a becker with navi myself, but always a bit curious to get feedback on what it's like checking directions while driving on such a small screen? Of course it depends how low unit is in dash, but is screen out highly visible? Thanks

I found the screen adequate for basic directions. Also remember that the audible directions will be much louder and clearer than a tomtom or such...

Becker are nice units. And anything would be better than the Audio 30 I have. But, do the steering wheel controls still work with them?

From what I understand, that seems to be a shortcoming on most or all aftermarket HUs.

The screen is very good and offers a surprisingly good representation of maps as it portrays junctions, roundabouts etc. The voice is the main bonus as you rarely need to look at the screen unless its a huge/complicated roundabout. The only disadvantage is that you need to invest between £109 to £127 for a navi CD if the one that comes with the unit is old 04. Cheaper from NAVTEQ, the supplier, than what people sell them on ebay.

Well i have taken the plunge and ordered a Becker 7990

I decided this unit will look the best out of all the other ones i have seen. Will do a mini review once i get it installed. Cant wait!

Excellent choice..I put an Indianapolis Pro in the SL60. It does everything it should very well. Looks good too :D

I'm particularly interested in the bluetooth capabilities as i've found many kenwood / pioneer units to be a bit patchy and haven't yet tried one of the newer becker units with bluetooth.

My Becker is a bit under two years old. Bluetooth works very well. A nice feature is that you can pair different phones, not sure how many but I have three paired with it. Only down side is that there's no cradle/charging facility.

Have you experienced any dropping of calls or having to re-pair the phones every now and then?

It comes with a sperate mic so hopefully should be good.

Sounds like the usual Becker high quality...good to hear!

It may not be packed with features, but what it does do, it does exceptionally well, and if the customer just wants a radio/cd player, then you can't get much better.

A bit 'Old Skool' though ?

Old skool, for an old fool.

We've had it years, but I wouldn't swap it unless it wasn't viable to repair.

I went into a couple of car hifi shops, and the conversations were a little like this.

Me: I'm looking for something with good sound quality, no gimmicks and looks like the manufacturer put it there.

Them: How about this one, it has animated dolphins on the screen.

Me: I'm thinking less dolphins.

Them: You can change it to an animated racing car.
