I have 255/40/R18 95 W on the front and 285/35/R18 97W on the rear, does anyone have any thoughts on the combination of different sizes or same size all round? Does it make a lot of difference to handling or comfort?

thanks,

Not only tyres, wheels will have different widths.

IMO, the staggered setup is especially important with high speed stability. Comfort will actually be less because of more tyre drone. will be worse on wallet when replacement time comes around...

Thanks, I had already thought about the shock to wallet!

I think the front wheels are 8.5 inch and the rears 9.5.

I noticed one thing that the rears have chipped the inner wheel arch, they tend to overhang a tad. Obviously went too fast on the loose chippings past Bainton.

Cheers,

I just replaced the 285/35 R18s on my SL yesterday. The tyre noise has reduced significantly. Maybe it's just the weight reduction from my now empty wallet tho.

Mirras,

Which brand did you buy? Are they the same as you had before.
Mine has Dunlops all round at the moment, with plenty life in them I think.
on a good road they are reasonably quiet, not enough good roads like a billiard table though. You dont half notice the potholes!!
thanks,

I got a pair of Pirelli P zero Rosso 285/35 ZR18 97Y tyres same as the ones on the car when I got it. The rears were down to 2mm in the center so were getting quite loud.

Seems to be common on the rossos. Even my FWD seat wore tyres down in centre. IMHO an excellent tyre but wear rate is too high for me.
