SL 500 Inspection Service light RESET

I have tried two techniques to reset the service/inspection light and neither have worked, can anyone recommend another route? The car is an SL500 1998 (I understand the dash is the same as the S500)

First method
Switch ignition on & immediately press trip button
Switch off ignition
Press & hold trip button whilst turning on ignition and hold for 10 seconds.
Release trip button and switch off

Second method
Turn on ignitin and immdiately press tip button withing 1 second

Have you serviced it yourself ? why do you need to turn the light off ?

Any indy or main dealer when the car has been serviced should turn the light off for you ....
