SL 55
Hi, I'm looking for a better ( slightly louder, but more throaty) exhaust note from my SL55.
I've read a few threads on here about similar systems on 55s, but I'm unclear on what can be achieved easily, cost effectively and not fall foul of MOT laws on a SL.

Can anyone describe what options are available for this and approx costs?

Can this be achieved with using a crossover section and remove part/ some of the cats?

Thanks
Tim

I have spent quite a lot of time looking at the exhaust on the 55's.
On the E55 you have 2 x primary cats they are at least 400 cell but look as if they may even be 500+ cell. Next comes a balance pipe followed by 2 x Sec Cats that are slightly offset. Next a centre box which also contains an open section that allows pulses to mix.
After this it is straight to the back boxes, here are some pictures to help you visualise it.

If you are after complete power and great sound.

Get Kleemann Headers, 200 cell sports cats, X-pipe with a long shallow join at least 20cms (it gives enough back pressure but also seems to help with drone and ensures good mixture of the individual cylinder pulses). Then pipes to standard back boxes. They main issue is to get rid of the centre box and swap the cats as each creates significant back pressure.

The standard boxes flow very well but in order of sound and flow the CLS one's are the best then SL and finally E55.

C63 sound great but not sure yet on what back pressure they create, will hopefully test a set to.

This should help....

Thanks
So would the SL setup be the same / similar to the E55?

And from that is the simplest mod be the removal of one ( of the four) baffle / cat sections?

And what's the rating here?

Sorry, should gave re-read before I sent. So does the centre section get taken out completely and which cats get swapped?

Try cks performance.
I test drove a car [potential purchase] with there crossover pipes fitted, and sounded lovely.
Purchased another 55 and have these pipes on order:D

I've got my SL55 in at Eurocharged tomorrow for some pipe work. Looking forward to releasing some noise ;)
