SL500 wee bit of damage

I like the fact he has blanked out the registration number. Perhaps he's afraid someone might steal it?

Judging from the damage the driver did not walk away? IF..... the seller is telling the truth (and that is a big IF) then I would take the driver to court and sue them for the full compensation, even if it were paid back at £5 per week.  Looks like the driver's head collided with the windscreen?

Only worth breaking, needs a reshell as the shell is twisted.

Strange having such an expensive car uninsured.

Totally agree,
I feel the seller might have a different reason for not claiming, I wonder who was driving it?  Under age son, daughter? Banned person? Uninsured person? Keys left in by mistake?

I suppose the bottom line is that car is a write off, but someone somewhere will no doubt have a go at repairing it.

So shell, pano roof, front wing, light, all associated damaged parts, spraying then all the labour and realignment of suspension.

Is it worth it for a 500? Maybe as an 'at home' project.

It's not recorded so can be done although it's a bit obvious what has happened if a car is re-shelled.

What will probably happen is it will be sold and then another car 'ringed' to it's identity.

There is no way i can belive that you have the means to buy a SL500 and you cant insure it...
thats ridiculous, cant see that anyone would even say that with a 50k car

A shell doesnt cost all that much. Could be done if the final result was legally driveable on the road.

I doubt a shell would be needed, a good jigman and a wheel house should do the job.

Not a cheap repair though.

Don't forget it's a cabriolet, that shell is sprung..

Localised damage though, looks like the leg is still intact and the alloy subframe let go and sent everythng back until it met the a-post...

A proper jig and a new corner should do the job.

Shelling a 230 would be no fun.

what I want to know is what happened to the steering wheel:eek::eek::eek:

Look further back, the windscreen support and rear wing are sprung also.

I am sure the shell is toast.

The pano roof , passenger door and the boot lid are the only bits that are not damaged.
Bumpers and bonnets are around very cheap for these, but owning one and knowing how they go together I cant see that ever getting back on the road

At least the seller is honest with the date of the car.

He says the roof is damaged, presumably by the windscreen surround going back and twisting.

That's so that the VIN, plates, logbook and history can resurface on another car.
Or am I just a cynic? :o

Me thinks that any 'prospective buyer':) Would very quickly get that information.

What are the engineer's observations about straightening out such damaged metal? Will it be as strong as the original?

It's listed as a BMW in it's description:rolleyes:
