Hi all, I'm new to this forum,
I've just bought a 2005 SLK 200 R171 and have a question about the centre arm rest, there are two plastic hand slots one on each side which look like they might be used to open the arm rest. But mine will not open I am afraid to force it(me being heavy handed) can somebody help?
or does it not open?

Many thanks in advance

Not too sure about your the SLK! usually you use one side button and the lid flips up to the opposite side. SO you push the drivers side button and lid will hinge on the passenger side.

If its the same as my Clk the side hinge gives access to the bluetooth adaptor but make sure the front catch (for the storage box) is fully closed or neither of them will open!
Tony.

Hi Guys thanks for the rapid replies, but the owners handbook shows it opening upwards between the seats from the front not long ways. Hopefully I get a few more ideas later.

They normally open upwards to allow access to the lower cubby box. The sideways bit is for the UHI phone connector that fits inside the cubby lid (if that makes any sense)

You should have a latch on the front that releases the upward bit. The side latches are for the sideways bit.

Welcome to the forum. Mine only locks when the doors are locked.

No front latch on ours (also 2005). It will just open at the front - hinged at the rear if you just pull it up from the front. The side latches just let the top part hinge to either side.

On my 2007 R171 the lid is hinged at the back and I simply pull it open.

There are no buttons and no locks, as far as I can tell. It simply has a latch!

In the grip to open the centre armrest there is a button. Push the button in the right recess and the lid opens to the right and the button on the left and the armrest opens to the left. Reveals the phone connection point or the bluetooth receiver.

Hi Thanks for trying to help I have attached a photo of mine, is yours the same?

Yep. Exactly the same. It should just pull up at the front. To get to the top section you push in one of the side buttons and it will hinge sideways. They do need to be pushed a long way in. Only push one side or it wont work. Hope that helps.

My SLK is a 54 plate and the same arm rest as yours. use both hands and give it a tug. it will open. they are a bit stiff.
