Ah well, 8000 miles and the rears are nearly shot (thanks Pirelli, for your tyres made from bubblegum that are rubbish in the wet!) so I'd welcome any suggestions (from experience, pref.) for a different make to replace them.

It's on 18inch wheels BTW.

Thanks

sorry, this should be in the tyres forum!

Mine's on 18500miles and tyres have tons of wear left - and I don't take it easy  my little amber triangle flashes and says hello fairly often :D

Michelin Pilot Primacy on mine. Pleased with them in general.

Goodyear F1s all the way :)

Thanks for all the suggestions.

I've seen an extensive tyre review on an American MB forum and they seem to go for either the Goodyear F1s or Michelin Pilot Sport PS2s. (Their rating of the Pirellis Zeros were spot on: 4/10 for wear!!)

Anyway, I've had both before on different cars and have to admit there's not much to choose betwen them so I'll let the price decide when it comes to changing them.

I'll keep you posted

You could also try Vredestein Ultracs or Uniroyal Rainsports. Both are very good in wet and dry, work in snow (just about), and are quiet and reasonably long wearing.

I would recommend, wait for it.........NOKIAN Tyres, I've had the NRV's on my Avensis since December 2001 (225/45x17) admitedly they now need replacing after about 31,000 miles.

I found them really good in the rain and on cold roads, as well as in the dry. Never had a puncture, and they changed the whole handling characteristics of the car for the better, look I know it's not a Merc, but it's not a 'dog' either.

And to boot, they are very reasonably priced, I paid £320.00 for 4 fitted and ballanced.

But I would suggest the NRY's for you vehicle, which are supposedly even better! NRV's only go up to 17"

Personally, I wouldn't fit anything else.

Cheers, Bill.

I had Continental and were quiet and good all rounders. I recently fitted Triangle Sport and seem quieter and excellent during the snow and at a fraction of the price.

My SLK's original Michelin Pilots lasted 30K albeit they were on 16" wheels which obviously give better mileage than 18" I changed wheels and tyres to 17" and managed 14K out of Dunlop SP9000. Back on Michelin now and find them much much better than the Dunlop. Will have to wait and see what mileage they produce.

This thread is over five years old!!

Tyre technology has moved on since then, I wouldn't listen to five year old recommendations.

Michelins for me these days anyway :thumb:
